Photographer’s Note
I had a chance to wander around Brighton on Saturday for the first time in some years, and decided on a series on the West Pier. Like a Nick Cave lyric this once magnificient peice of Victorian architecture now 'looms like a bird of doom as it twists and cracks', and is all the more ominous, since around it's remains on the beach people engage in everyday beach activities, seemingly oblivious to mass of twisted metal around them.
Having been closed for years, plans to revive it were more or less scuppered following a mysterious fire in 2003.

Your note ties in well with the photo, Richard; the first thing that struck me about the woman was that she seems almost completely dissociated from her surroundings -- not gazing out at the view as one tends to do at the seaside. The way you have made her stand out in sole focus within the blur of ugliness conveys her detachment well. Very nice work.

Lisa

Richard! long time... Nice compo - I like your DOF here - not too strong, but just in between - a simple, lonely, well-executed piece. best, c
