The peace statue on the esplanade in Hove, East Sussex, England. A striking memorial to King Edward VII, who had a special relationship with the seaside town, that was unveiled on the 12th October 1912 and marks the boundary between Brighton and Hove. The monument is 27 feet (8.2m) in height, with the figure being about 10 feet (3m) and is a winged female standing on a globe representing the universe. In her left hand she holds an orb, the emblem of sovereignty, with the right arm being raised and holding an olive branch, universally recognised as a symbol of peace. Hard to believe that less than 2 years from unveiling the continent of Europe was plunged into the horrors of the First World War. Worldwide Peace has eluded the planet ever since and seems about as distant as the crescent moon in this image……………maybe someday.
Yes that is red paint at the base of the figure; the statute has seen more than its fair share of bird guano, protests and graffiti in its 100 years.

I would like to be the first to comment this one ;)
I like the work done on this image, as a post-processor myself, i can tell that you spent quite an amount of time on this one ;)
It reminds me a movie "Der Himmel über Berlin", "les ailes du désir" from Wim Wenders ;)

Excellent clarity and depth makes this photograph so endearing. You have also captured and appropriate background that enhances the elegance of this beautiful piece of sculpture. The sharpness of the image, the raised arm and the immense wings, the pleated robes add to the mood of this photograph. The splash of crimson/red around the foot – probably caused by chemicals working on the bronze …... Isn’t it significant ? Did it happen on purpose ? Interesting.
The brief note stating the history of the sculpture is useful.
Thanks for sharing.

A dramatic capture of this impressive statue. The splendid backlit sky makes an excellent backdrop. The crescent moon is nicely placed and is a fine plus point.

really like the way you utilized the light to create so amazing atmosphere of the scene(this white glow around the statue adds something "magical" to the scene).
Other thing is your superb POV and perspective as well as some little details, like for example the Moon.
Have a good day

A monumental and allegorical statue, excellent photo with great POV and clarity, I like this brighter background, well done

the halo you got around the statue makes the shot for me. I'm actually wondering what it is. Could it be the sun since you can catch a glimpse of the moon right next to it? And it must've been hell to recover all those details on the statue. Is that a double exposure? Anyhow, the result is striking.

there are two merits in this photo: you left the pillar out of the frame, and there is an almost transcendent light shining from behind the statue.

Glad you made it back in one piece yesterday! :)
I was not expecting this when I took a quick peek through the main pages earlier this morning...and what a pleasant surprise of subject from your collection, this is fantastic! I can't get over the rich colors and textures, not to mention the absolute exquisite light.
I'm a bit baffled as to its direction, it appears to shine brightly coming from the statues side/back, while the background projection would suggest the complete opposite. Fascinating! An warm conveyance of idealism that we may unfortunately never get to experience in our lifetimes...but there's always hope!
The little sliver of moon is the cherry on top, what a great addition to the already impressive imagery and execution of details. Very informative note as well, making it all the more appealing. Compliments on an exceptional photo. Enjoy the day ahead.

You wrote an excellent note to accompany your excellent photo. The light on this side of the statue is just right considering the very strong backlight. My grandfather, who I never met, was from Hove. He did not return from WW2.

Fantastique mise en image de cette statue. Très beau travail de PP et merci à la lune qui s'invite en guest star!

Nice capture of this symbol that has lost it's importance in our world. I like the colors and the good quality textures. Well taken.

From the dark side (with my upload today) to the light or good side, with this image of a stone angel symbolising peace, presumably clutching an olive branch. The backlight is superb and gives this image a supernatural look. Excellent sharpness and the crescent of the moon is a nice addition. Tfs!

Superb how the sun behind the statue illuminates the statue perfectly here.
I only wish that the olive branch would work its magic on the world. But considering the current status I don't have to much hope.
have a great day

Ciao e buona giornata
