The ice cream parlour and Victorian tower at the end of Eastbourne Pier in East Sussex, England. The pier was opened on the 13th June 1870 and this theatre and bar was added in 1899/1901. The tower contains one of the earliest camera obscuras ever made. This curious Victorian Camera Obscura projects images of the outside world into a dish within a darkened room. Lovingly restored in 2003, it is open to the public on a limited number of days in the year.

Hi, Brian, good morning,
I am a bit surprised by these Greek colors of the British peer ;)) Anyway, excellent photo, interesting historic note. Perfect quality! TFS!
Greetings from LA!

Very nice capture of this beautiful "landmark" of Esatburne's pier.
Good pov and layout, perfect balanced light management.
TFS and have a nice weekend

A clever composition with the line of lampposts/lights and seats all drawing the eye and inviting us to enter the door to the wonders of the camera obscure beyond.
The bright saturation of colours and sharpness your trademark stamp are again perfectly executed...how do you avoid stark shadow?
have a great weekend

The row of blue benches guides us into the scene toward the domed tower. Ideally cropped to produce a pleasant well balanced composition. Pleasantly lit with very good colour contrasts and excellent sharpness. have a pleasant weekend.

great combination of the colors which has very French character :-) I like how the blue and white tones are interrupted and enriched by the red elements of the composition. Very nicely framed and composed into well organized wholeness. Perfect sharpness and well handled light.
Thanks for sharing

If I close my eyes, this does remind me of St Pauls cathedral, it has such a design that its hard to believe that a structure like this can stand on a pier. I love the overwhelming blues of the scene, which are softened and balanced perfectly by the vibrant reds. We have no piers like this in IReland, and its a shame as they look like wonderful places to spend some time, especially as you show here with camera in hand.
The lack of people gives a very nice 28 Days Later vibe too, which I like a lot!
All the best

Attractive colors of this pier kiosks, impressive buildings, I like this blue, it must be rare moments when there aren't any visitors, superb photo

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Lots of blue color and ice cream...you got me, I'm sold! :) Ice cream wouldn't last long around here though, we're already pushing 100f/37c...it would only end up a sticky mess all over your face and hands. Careful now! ;)
Love the distribution of blue's in this scene, especially on the railings of the tower. Even without human presence, this appears to be a spot where everyone would enjoy the bright sun, warm weather and festive atmosphere. Time to get your ice cream on! Hope you're having a nice weekend mate. Take it easy.
Cheers from the dusty desert,

Hi, Brian, good morning,
It looks similar to Brighton only less crowded and maybe in better shape and care. Fantastic warm cold colour contrasts between the red and blue. I walked about half way along the Brighton pier before heading back to the bus stop to get my 9:30 pm bus from Victoria Station to Amsterdam. Would have liked more time in Brighton. But better to see a little than none at all! Tfs!

Un de tes sujets favoris, une nouvelle fois remarquablement mis en image. La cadrage est superbe, la lumière et les couleurs splendides.

Yes I have been to a few end of pier shows in my time and they were not at the end of a pier!
Nicely composed shot. Enjoy your weekend.

This brings back so many good memories of Eastbourne. Every year for 20 years my grandparents took the whole family, sometimes up to 18 of us, to the Queens Hotel for a four day break at New Year. The hotel is opposite the pier and we were always amused at my rather 'proper' grandfather playing the slot machines on the pier.
Anyway to your picture. The colour saturation is very appealing giving a freshly painted look. It looks like a sunny day in May but quite empty. The high quality of this image makes it 'pop' from the page. Love it!
Best wishes, Ann
