Photographer’s Note
Brighton's past few hundred years have traces in abundance. Since the price's regal days in the Pavillion, to the Victorian changes in thinking, there's a past and a future around every corner.
This photograph has the burned down Vicorian era pier (West Pier) that was believed to be attacked by arson. The newer Brighton Pier still thrives and has the charm of a different era, but is still fun for all. The carousel in the foreground still offers a classic sense of entertainment, and to me, there's a feeling of swinging Britian that lives on here. Perhaps it is because of the sunbathers on the stone beach, the edgy clubs or the feeling that Brighton is the most alive Victorian seaside town I've come across (granted, I have not been to many).

What a great British seaside scene! Nothing dramatic or mind-blowing, just a good, traditional slice of British beach life and reminds me of when my parents took me places like this as a kid!
The wooden walkway doesn't sit quite right with me, but I dont know if I want it all in - or less! But then that may have adversely affected the composition of the rest of the scene...so i'm confused and won't dwell on it too much!
Suffice to say this brings back happy memories of freezing holidays on deserted british beaches.
Sincerely, thanks for posting this!

A nice view of that quintessential English seaside resort that is Brighton.

Hi Dan,
This brings back memories for me too. When we were young and strapped for cash, we used to go to Camber Sands in Sussex with the children until we could stand it no longer and began taking fabulous holidays across the channel.
The three components of carousel, deck chairs and dilapidated pier just say it all for me.
As for the technical side, I wonder if b/w might not emphasise the dated essence of this image.
