And now for something completely different. A man and his dog, "Breakfast at Tiffany's", Regent Street, Brighton, East Sussex.
I couldn't resist these two sitting outside a greasy spoon cafe with the somewhat pretentious name. I suspect they'll have a long wait before Holly Golightly appears.
This one's for CLODO, remembering his new year challenge.

Ah, this is so good. I love the look of the hungry dog fixing its eyes on the delicacies on the too distant plate. I am sure this eventually turned out to be a breakfast for two, or at least for one and a half. It would have been a crime not to take this picture and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.

fantastico scatto, una foto bella e simpatica.
Ottima scelta del b&w, non distoglie lo sguardo dalle scena che è la cosa più importante.

love this! So much charm and real character here and captured superbly - works perfectly in B&W too. Original and a shot that makes me realise I should look for shots like this when out and about in Brighton.

Oh, this is charming!
You have observed the scene very closely and given a perfect take on the man and his transfixed dog.
I am used to this sort of scenario. My cats take on a similar expression when Len and I eat ice-cream!
Thank for the boating info on my last shot.

I like this - photojournalism at it's best, an image with a story!
I hope he shared the food with the dog eventually, making it breakfast for two. :-)
Your note made me smile.
Have a nice weekend

What a great moment. I see one little fellow that wishes this was a breakfast for two! Very well seen street photo that works beautifully in black and white. Great shot!

Un beau cliché entre homme et chien!
Ce monsieur prend du plaisir avec son assiette de nourriture et le chien est là tout gentil enattendant sa part du gâteau!
Très bien vu

This has brought a broad smile to my face, my own dog sits like all the time. When he wants something and you have captured a very sweet moment. Perfect timing for the man in the shot too, he is pertly still and positioned ideally in the shot, his body language shows he is far too used to the dogs tricks to be softened up and share his food. Very nice and vey unusual image, cheers.

Fine composition with a charming situation displayed with excellent sharpness and details. I like the black and white treatment too with lovely shades of grey. Excellent presentation and thanks for sharing it.
have a nice weekend.
PS: I liked your workshop on the beach shot and though it slightly limited the tonal range of the picture, it did achieve the important objective of enhancing clarity. Since I find shooting in low light difficult with the camera I presently have (Fuji X10), such PP work coming from a photographer of your calibre and experience is really helpful and I thank you for taking the pains and sparing the time. Any suggestions on which software is suitable at entry level?

Of course, it's only on the larger version (as seen on "beta" TE) that you can actually read "Tiffany's" on the menu card - but what a pretentious name indeed for a café like this!
This really is a decisive moment or an image à la sauvette as both cartier Bresson and Claude (CLODO) would call it, perfectly timed with the rather doleful (and doubtless hungry) dog studying each mouthful of food which his master eagerly devours.
Good that you weren't spied by this chap as you took your picture but I see from your exif data that this was taken on a focal length of 113mm, so you obviously weren't using your 24 - 70mm lens and were at a respectable distance.
Lovely light, tones and contrasts, perfect exposure and, as always, exquisite details and sharpness.

I couldn`t let this one get away.
Just crying out for your mono treatment it`s got everything needed for a cracking shot from humour to pathos it`s a cracker.
Hang dog expression springs to mind...

Ahh the iconic English Greasy Spoon, there is nothing quite like it. And what a decisive moment you've captured, the choice of B&W being a very good one. This could have been taken an time in the last 30 years. The look on that poor puppy's face says it all. How mean of the man not to share is bacon butty with him! An endearing, very sweet shot. Thanks for sharing.
abmdsudi (55562) 2014-08-25 2:47
Nicely caught and it's great how the dog grabs attention which has an element of humour for me. I really like the crop to this and the light just bringing out the atmosphere and detail with such a stark effect. Lovely street candid timely clicked, that's one good shot. Congrats

Great capture and good B&W rendition. An image that is very strong on narrative.
macjake (69729) 2014-08-26 16:48
now THIS is awesome!
as a dog lover, this one is right up my alley!
when traveling on a plane, I often wish I could bring my dog along in the seat next to me - but i guess that wouldn't work out now a days would it?
love the face sitting on the table, just staring at the food, waiting patiently.
such a fun shot!
adores (45857) 2014-08-27 15:33
This is a great moment! I like everything in the composition and specially the pose of the dog watching the food. The poor one looks so sad as he waits patiently. Great shot in b&w!
CLODO (34862) 2014-08-29 11:11
hats off for this every day situation which looks like a Henri Cartier Bresson picture.
thank you for the dedicace, i fully appreciate!

Nice genre. :)
Juzo (4203) 2014-09-11 4:20
A really charming shot, something every pet owners knows I guess, and a perfect moment forma street photography perspective.
SnapRJW (31629) 2014-09-17 12:13
A good observational shot Will. What is going through the dog's mind? He doesn't look as if he is starving but perhaps he will get to lick the plate is he doesn't pounce on it beforehand!
tatadalou (7459) 2014-10-05 2:11
I do like the scene, it's so unusual to see a dog sit on a chair, even more watching at the man having his breakfast. So funny ! B&W was the good solution to take advantage of the scene, thanks to a great light management.
