Seen here in calmer times - 80 mph winds here last night again. It is late afternoon on the promenade in the City of Brighton, East Sussex, England. Fading autumn sunlight giving the pier and this bicycle a golden glow as the shadows lengthen.
In the workshop the Monochrome version - could not decide which one to post!

Love this the light is fantastic, love how it falls on the bike and railings.
Fantastic view of the pier.
Wonderful, top marks.
Hope you are ok in these storms,

Happy a old picture, England gets now to much rain, and storms, we see everyday images of the floods.
You play excellent with light and shade, but the bike is the real eye catcher on these picture.
But a very pleasant picture to look at
Of course a wonderful architecture picture in background.
Excellent presentation, colour and sharpness are perfect.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

I think I prefer the colour version, the light is quite fantastic and contributes a great deal to the overall success of the image. The image is cleverly composed making excellent use of the graphical lines of the railing, whilst the bike helps set the mood. Some beautiful colour contrasts and excellent sharpness. Hope the wind has died down by now as it has done here, though it is still raining.

love this bike - I had almost the same when I stayed for few months in Dorset. Even the basket was similar :-)
I also parked it often on the pier while taking photos in Swanage, but I do not think anybody has ever taken photo of it. Shame, because it seems to be an excellent idea, especially if the background is so interesting and light so pretty.
Great color and light management, superb sharpness.
Thanks for sharing

on this occasion I think that it`s the colour version that works best for me,the quality of the light along the pier and the railings is just gorgeous.
Oh and I do like the empty wicker basket.
Have a great week end.

la luce è fondamentale per questo scatto, la composizione è ineccepibile, ma questi toni caldi ne fanno uno scatto di alta classe.

I love riding bikes, although it's been difficult doing that lately!
Very enjoyable picture specially for the light, colors, vertical format and composition!
TFS - congrats,
Have a great week-end,

We got our power back after a long, cold night and I hate to think of what it was like where you live. I love the richness of the colours that the late light has given. The bicycle makes a super subject and even has one of those wonderfully old-fashioned baskets. The strong diagonals are eye-catching and powerful - very well composed.
Kind Regards, Ann

I don't have a favourite here Brian. To my mind they are both successful and completely different image and can both be enjoyed equally. The B&W highlights the excellent contrasting light while the colour version capitalises on the warmth of that light. I like the strong composition which utilises the lines of railing and pier very well. Of course the bike is a super feature too. Have a good day.... dry and safe! Rosemary

Ciao dear Brian
Much calmer times from the sounds of it! And what a sensational photo it is, looking like something from the front cover of a travel magazine. The bicycle gives the image a whimsical atmosphere and your trademark golden light warming the BG is there in all its glory. I love the diagonal lines, the perspective that the bike creates and the impressive depth of field which allows every BG detail to shine through. Congratulations, this one's a winner.
PS: both this and your WS are equally beautiful A difficult decision to make to split the two.

Splendid light and colors
In the same line that "Stanislas blues", but much better !
all the best, have a nice WE

another very good presentation here. I love the soft golden light and the long perspective you shown here. Like the cycle at foreground with such a nice architecture at back. Excellent presentation with very good depth and sharpeness. Bravo.
Have a nice WE.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

A lovely image from quieter days.
Great late light, resulting in very warm colours.
(so I'd go for the colour version too)
Corry (4508) 2014-02-15 11:52
Belle composition avec cette rampe et cette bicyclette qui dirigent le regard vers les maisons éclairées par une lumière basse de fin de journée. Belles couleurs dorées. Très bien fait.

Yes, calmer times indeed - I really feel so sorry for you folk down south with all your dreadful weather and flooding. I do hope that you're safe and not suffering too much.
I'm not sure which version of this I prefer because i really like them both. Sometimes it's quite easy to have a preference for either a black and white or a colour version of a photograph but, like you I guess, I find it difficult to know which one to go for - because they are both delightful images.
Whichever version you look at, it is the lovely low-angle light which really makes it, brightly lighting the distant buildings against a darker sky and lighting the foreground railings against the darker beach. And, of course, that bicycle with its little wicker basket, adds wonderful foreground interest and appeal.
A superb composition with lovely strong diagonals, fabulous light and contrasts and exquisite details and sharpness. Whichever version you look at!

I know this place! And I had the best donuts from the start of the pier depicted here that I have had since I left Korea. The diagonal pier adds both dynamism and perspective. Good color and saturation with superb sharpness. Tfs!

Great idea for the composition with this bile in the FG and beautiful view of a pier in the BG, fantastic light and colors
jjcordier (79297) 2014-02-15 23:17
Lumière magique dans cette excellente composition verticale. Personnellement, je préfère nettement la version couleurs.
willperrett (10137) 2014-02-16 11:57
For what it's worth I think I prefer the monochrome version, as it seems to possess more drama, particularly in the sky. But then I'm biassed. However the golden glow is of course lost in the alternative version, and it is this that is the salient feature of the colour image. Nice deep perspective, and good foreground subject matter too.

This one is an excellent click. The diffused sunlight has enhanced the impact of the pic. Thanks

What an elegant and beautiful capture taken during such a nice moment! The lights and warm tones made the view truly spectacular and eye-catching. Like it a lot!
