A pebbly view along the beach at low tide from Birling Gap in East Sussex, England. The white chalk cliffs here rise up to heights of above 100 meters and the resulting thermals give seagulls a perfect place to glide on the breeze. Birling Gap is one of the few places along this stretch of coast where you can legitimately climb down onto the beach, by way of a purpose built stairway.

Exactly the opposite of the north coast of France.
Very interesting deep foreground who shows the sharp stones of the beach.
Best regards and happy Easter.

Splendid foreground for this view of the impressive cliffs.
Attractive low POV.
Best regards, Paul

Outstanding depth of field and I did find the seagulls after a while. Very good composition too. What are the dark boulders? They do not seem to be the flint that occurs in the chalk as they seem to be too coarse grained. Maybe the sky is a bit too blue but a very pleasant image to look at.

These seaside views are something at which you really excel!
The depth of this image is astounding, all the way from the near pebbles (which I am sure you could easily have stretched out and touched) to the distant horizon. Beautiful colours, fine contrasts, perfect exposure and stunning detail and sharpness.
Have a Lovely Easter!
P.S. Thank you for your very helpful advice about exposing for sunsets - very useful information indeed!

nice the vertical format with the black pebbles on the foreground to are so sharp and clear.I like the way that the white of the cliff and the sand, that contrast with the blue of the sky, as the excellent quality of the image.
Have a good weekend,danos

a well-composed vertical shot, with something to see on every layer. Funny at first I thought you'd used a polarizer but that doesn't seem to be the case...

Beautiful view of high cliffs, great DOF, perfectly managed light, well composed
mauro61 (52887) 2012-04-07 12:35
come sempre molto curata la scelta del POV con la scogliera sullo sfondo e i ciotoli in FG.
Colori sempre al top come pure la qualità,

Hi Brian, Can hear your knees clicking, super low Pov, over these pebbles, on to the fantastic view of the cliffs and sea, not to forget the seagulls in the gorgeous blue sky, Wonderful. Cheers Iain.

This low pov has turned the beach into an eye-catching mixture of shapes and textures. I like how perspective has made the pebbles dwarf the cliffs.
A fine composition, using the receding line of the clifftops to draw the viewer deep into the b/g.
Fine sharpness and good saturation.
Free as bird works well ...!
Have a lovely Sunday,

I love your very low POV that adds great depth to the composition. Sharpness is excellent and the colours are great.

A wonderful, rich saturated blue sky that contrasts so well against the pale yellow reddish tinted cliffs. Good dof all the way through & I like the low shooting angle including the rounded fg boulders & rocks worn by the sea. The birds animate the shot. Tfs!
macjake (72593) 2012-04-09 5:20
an interesting view for sure.
at first glance, it would appear that the photo is off kilter and tilting...but closer examination reveals that the horizon line IS straight! guess its just the way the cliff falls away and gains height, and probably the vertical composition distorted the perspectives a bit too.
excellent contrast in forms and shapes from top to bottom, and of course the colors are vibrant and striking.

such a wonderful and powerful colors and composition. The deep blue sky is so stunning.
The pebbles are so special , all round and shiny.
What a place and what a view to witness.
bayno (18344) 2012-04-10 4:37
magnificent cliffs, should not have been easy to let up and down the stairs, but it was worth the effort, the simple composition is superb, the color rendering of your 20 mm is great, perfect exposure and a nice contrast between the yellow cliffs and the beautiful sky, the gulls are an extra bonus,is also beautiful the blacks pebbles in FG...beautiful work...
tomorrow i fly back to Italy...no bad...

this is the second photo of a pebbles beach. Love your point of view with the pebbles very close and the sky and rock in the bg.
Have a nice night.

Hi Brian - I'm back from a trip and catching up on recent posts. This one appeals enormously, my kind of subject, simple and beautifully composed. Lovely detail shot with the FG pebbles backed by the cliff and deep blue sky. Warm regards Rosemary

..2287603 stones...I hope I won the towel?
Okay now seriously: the extra lower point
of view in this pictures makes every subject
in the picture extra bigger and makes the
hole picture tougher. Light management
and the composition are as alway great.
