Battle Abbey

Another famous place in the south of England. This is the town of Battle, built around Battle Abbey, which was built to commemorate the Battle of Hastings in 1066, when William the Conqueror defeated King Harold II and became William I of England. Seen here is the Battle Abbey Gatehouse, which is now the entrance to the battlefields, the abbey buildings and ruins and a visitor centre.
