Photographer's Note

Durdle door in Dorset... a deceptive look really because it was getting towards the end of the day and it was raining and quite windy so trying to get pictures was becoming increasingly difficult. this ended up a 3 second exposure. I am sure there must be many TE posts of this beautiful natural arch. I would have much preferred to photograph it from down on the beach however on this evening the elements were against us.....next visit!
Wikipedia tells us this is a privately owned limestone arch, being owned by the Weld family along with the stretch of coastline it sits on including some 12,000 acres which is collectively known as the Lulworth Estate. Durdle comes from old english and means a bore or drill. There is a camp ground at the top of these cliffs and it is a popular walking destination as it is a scenic stretch of coast. It is quite a steep climb up from /down to the beach and I wouldn't want to do it after dark without a flashlight or torch.
