Not far from the village of Sydenham Damerel we came across this field of rapeseed.
Sydenham Damerel is a small parish on the western border of Devon, lying approximately midway between the north and south coasts and bounded to the south-west by Cornwall and the river Tamar. It is mainly a community of hamlets, farms and small rural businesses and is home to about 200 inhabitants.
The small village of Sydenham Damerel lies near the centre of the parish. It is an ancient settlement, close to one of the few bridges over the Tamar. South of the parish lies Kit Hill, a granite mass rising 334 metres above the Tamar, which is tidal to nearby Gunnislake. From the summit there are extensive views over the Tamar valley, West Devon and South-east Cornwall. In clear weather the Eddystone Lighthouse in the English Channel and the china clay workings at St. Austell can be seen.
There are no major roads - the busiest road is the B3362 Tavistock to Launceston route, which crosses the northern tip of the parish. The village is approached via quiet country lanes, mostly bordered by Devon stone hedges.
Rapeseed oil, sometimes called vegetable or canola oil, is from the third most important crop grown in the UK after wheat and barley, and along with linseed are the only oils grown and bottled in the UK.
It comes from the black seeds of the rapeseed plant, Brassica napus, from the same Brassica family as the health enhancing vegetables broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. The plant produces sunny, yellow flowers around springtime, so look out for golden fields brightening our beautiful landscapes during these months.
Rapeseed oil has in the past been in the shadow of its better known Mediterranean counterparts, olive and sunflower oil, however, celeb chefs, foodies and nutritionists alike are now recognising and celebrating its culinary and health properties.

Isn't England wonderful at this time of year, when the sun is shining that is! There's me presenting a field of blue today and you showing us fields of gold. Superbly enticing composition and gloriously beautiful. Sublime!

Hi Les,a typical scenery of this month, this blue blue sky is perfect to contrast the yellow of cilza fields in the best moment of the season,a great spectacle taken with very bright colors and fine detail everywhere,i like it! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

April looks like in full bloom in your picture. The yellow carpet of the flowers is very attractive and makes the picture rather cheerful and positive. The single walking woman in the distance has been placed in here with subtlety and the group of the trees on the horizon helps to frame the image. Pretty colors and well given contrast.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your evening

A very attractive composition of yellow flowers, blue sky and a red and white woman functioning as a small exclamation mark. The road goes nicely along the bushes after making a bend in the foreground. The excellent clarity and sharpness makes this photo very nice to watch.

Hello Les - In life I actually hate the look of fields of rapeseed, perhaps because that particular acid yellow is not a favourite colour! Silly really as the fields do make a fabulous photographic subject. Here with the clear blue sky and rich greens the yellow is well contrasted. The composition with solitary figure is attractive and I particularly like the copse of leafless trees on the horizon.
One small point,I'm not sure if it's my screen but is there a slight yellow/green cast on the road?
PS. Is spring early this year?

The North/South divide takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to plants; the crops in Devon are a couple of weeks ahead, at least, in terms of flowering!
You have chosen your viewpoint well, the curved path leading nicely to the focal figure, so strong by position and by the vibrant colour of her clothes; she is the only change from the main acid yellow, blue and green of the surround.
My warm regards,

straordinaria composizione nella quale il colore ha una funzione predominante.
La presenza della figura umana aggiunge una note di colore diverso che si unisce a perfezioone alla distesa di colore giallo dei fiori.
Una foto eccellente
Ciao e buona serata

Wuaw, never see or heard about it, must investigate, here mainly oil is obtained from sunflowers, good of your country to not have fallen into the fever of soybean as happens in Argentina and Brasil
Now the imppressive capture othe ruaral landscape with the path going back and given perspective and deepness
Great to add the touch of red with the walking woman

I like the yellow fields of rapeseed they add so much color to the landscape. Somehow however I never really manage to get out there in time to photograph them, I am always too late.
Lovely composition here with the field road making a subtle bend. Presence of a person walking it adds a nice touch too. Very well done!!
