Photographer’s Note
This is my 100th Post on TE!
This photo was taken in the Barbican of Plymouth on a gray, dreary day. The warm pub was a welcome sight as we walked around Plymouth.
Plymouth's Barbican is home to Britain's maritime heritage. If you are an American in search of your history, if you are wondering whether your ancestors sailed on the Mayflower in 1620, then Plymouth Barbican.com is where you can find out more about the place from which the Mayflower began its historic voyage.
Every year, Plymouth plays host to Americans who travel here to celebrate Thanksgiving in Plymouth. Visitors can tour the historic Barbican, see the Mayflower Steps and enjoy a walk along the sea front with its elegant recently restored colonnade, past the Citadel to Plymouth Hoe with its unbeatable views out to sea. Climb Smeaton's Tower and watch a game of bowls, played upon the famous Bowling Green where Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game before tackling the Spanish Armada. (Barbican Visitor Guide)

Congratulations on reaching this TE milestone. I looked at the date of your photo and you were unlucky to have such poor weather, as 2006 was the hottest summer on record in the UK.
This is a well composed shot where the line from the wall makes a good lead-in. You have included just enough water for interest. Despite the light you have produced a clear, sharp image.

Hi Asa.
I can't imagine a better 100th post than a pub .. a place to rest in comfort and friendship for a bit .. I love how you have added enough of the surrounding drab stone that the white pub just leaps out ..
take care,
John

Hello Asa,
Very nice view of this traditional English town pub despite the miserable sky. I like the framing of the curving harbour wall and the steps. The overcast sky makes for some pleasing tones in the stonework. Congratulations on your 100th posting.

Congratulations for all these pics that you share with us. This is a very nice one too, and the pub is beautiful as is its location by the ocean shown here by a great point of view. Nice definition and colours (shadows even shown on water) but as you said the day was not the greatest and you did a grat job despite this.

There is nothing like an English pub and you captured it perfectly Asa , I like the curve of the quay bending around to draw the viewer towards the subject, the clarity and exposure considering the dull light is amazing. what light you had you used well .. good work Asa

Nice shot Asa, very interesting when combined with your note. Colors are nice, especially dor a dreary afternoon and the damp almost comes through in the shot. Detail is fine and the focus is nice and crisp.

Asa
Sorry that you had to experience a rainy day in Devon. However the overcast sky does have some benefits in that the colours in this image are gentle and often the exposure easier to handle. We just had a week in Cornwall with bright sunshine and blue skies and getting the exposure correct required a great deal of bracketing.

Hi Asa
Congratulations on your 100th. This is a great way to celebrate it with a picture of a pub. Like the curve of the walkway, very inviting. Good bold colours along with neutral ones. Despite the cloudy day you managed a great shot.
Take care,
Tosca
