Good Morning Everyone,
I only knew Plymouth Hoe as being the place that Captain Drake dreamt about as he slept in his hammock, from a song we learned at school. It was so pleasing to find that Plymouth had so much more to offer.
My photograph, this morning, shows part of the Naval Memorial on Plymouth Hoe. Behind it can be seen Plymouth's Eye, a large ferris wheel.
I chose to include only part of the memorial for better visual impact.
The memorial was erected to commemorate all those from the Royal Navy who lost their lives during the First World War and had no known grave.Sailors from some Australia and South Africa were also commemorated.
It was later extended to include those from the Royal Navy and other Commonwealth Countries who died during the Second World War.

After the most horrendous winds and rain, the U.K. is having a small respite. Let's hope it lasts!
I wish you all a peaceful and happy day, Bev :-)

clever image this, I really like it! These big wheels are everywhere now, we have one in Brighton, which they kept turning despite being closed yesterday as it fared better in the wind if revolving! I like your imaginative conception and original composition here it works superbly. Excellent clarity and detailing too!
Looks like you got the worst of it yesterday, we had gales and rain, and I got soaked returning from the gym, but not hurricane force. So scary seeing the effects on the news. It seems endless doesn't it.

Very good placement of the lion in the middle of the Ferris wheel, it seems its head is the cog in the wheel :-) Or the other way around the wheel spokes look like the extended mane of the lion. Beautiful composition , I like it. I hope you have this kind of weather pretty soon. Thanks for sharing a nice photo.

Good morning Beverly,
Nicely combined the two subjects , with the big-wheel decoratig the sky behind the lion statue, part of the monument.
Fine clear shot, blue sky and super-modern white-structured wheel.
Clarity and light management are beautifully rendered.

I guess you walked around here to find this perfect spot to catch the lion at the centre of the impressive wheel. It really brings our a crown around the statue lion. Well observed.

J'aime beaucoup le point de vue choisi qui place la tête du lion en plein centre de la grande roue. Celle-ci donne l'impression d'être une couronne autour de sa tête. La lumière et les couleurs sont superbes.

The point of view and the composition are very good! And the sharpness and the depth of field are excellent too.

Ciao e buona giornata

Let's hope the predicitons of another storm hitting England this weekend will be provn wrong:-).
As for this photo it's a fine and surprising composition combining two totally different elements in a way that makes them seem like they actually belong together. The "eye" looks like it is attached to the back of the lion. The effect is quite amusing and the light clouds make it look even nicer.

What a good and clever composition is this ! Your well chosen viewpoint placing the lion's head right in the centre of the ferris wheel gives the animal a majestic appearance, as if he was crowned. The clear blue sky makes an fine backdrop to the bright tones of the monument and wheel. Well captured.

A playful composition, Bev.
And a great soft blue sky above.

I like your point of view placing the lion's head to show the wheel as a crown and your note is interesting.
The superb light gives excellent details.

Love the composition on this, I bet this noble lion never thought he would become the hub of a ferris wheel :) Very well seen. The wheel looks huge too, those capsules look similar to the London Eye. It seems many cities want to have a ferris wheel as part of their skyline these days. Even Dublin has one, and its the most awkwardly placed thing imaginable!

Makes an interesting backdrop: the giant wheel.
The lion is menacing. :)
Wonderful click. Perfect POV.

Excellent Lyon statue close-up photo with very nice colors, perfect light, very good clarity. Superb background with the Plymouth's Eye. The well-chosen tight crop eliminates all unwanted distractions.
Very well done.
Wish you a nice, relaxing weekend.

Very competent composition and shooting point!! Pretty impressive wheel and a great leap when going on any attraction like this. I like the contrast between the two and the huge difference in size of them, a shot blessed by such a glorious colour and light. Fab shot and thks to your narratives. Congrats

Hello dear Bev,
I love the dramatic composition with the ferris wheel seemingly providing a halo around the Plymouth Lion's head. It is evocative of a portrait of Ellen Mirren playing Queen Elizabeth I (Click on this link, and scroll down to the third image).
Have a good weekend,

hope you don't mind, but i'm going to focus in on the bg subject here...the ferris wheel.
There must be LOTS & LOTS of money to be made in these Ferris Wheels...seems like they're popping up all over the world in large, even smaller cities too.
and you know its only going to be done if they can turn a profit...so it must be profitable!
Las Vegas is building 2 new Ferris Wheels, and i think 1 is now actually completed.
I wonder if Vancouver would purchase/build one? Not sure where they'd put it, space is so limited.
excellent day for photographs, lovely exposure as its spot on!
interesting shot, it stands out in your gallery for sure.
