Monday 5th Feb:Over night high winds have reeked havoc across the West Country bringing down trees and power lines as well as destroying sea defences all along the coast bringing further misery to hard hit communities.
Last Sunday we were near Peter Tavy on the western edge of Dartmoor when for a few moments the late afternoon sun managed to break through the relentless clouds bringing just a hint of brighter days ahead.

Good morning dear friend
this shot in sepia has a dramatic atmosphere
a shot divorsed into three parties
the deep dark cloudy sky the sunrays trying
to appear through the strong dramatic clouds
and the landscape with trees and other natural
details unfortunately according to your useful
notes high winds have reeked havoc across
the West Country bringing down trees and power
in my opinion the strength of the Nature
cannot be avoided
lets hope that spring will arrive soon

This is a superb capture of the sunlight breaking through the clouds. Excellent timing to catch the sun rays. Nice natural framing with the stone wall. Your choice of monochrome has heightened the drama and atmosphere of this photo. Great work, very well done. Thanks for sharing.

What a superb composition beautifully rendered in black and white, which suits the mood perfectly. The drystone wall makes a great frame for the landscape stretching out in front of us as far as the eye can see. The sunburst through the cloud laden sky is quite spectacular. Excellent conversion to black and white. Thanks for sharing.

Very eye-catching B&W. Very good clarity well into the distance. Love the sunbeams striking the landscape as though they are the cause of the mist.

This is a scene that you have to feel lucky to have witnessed. It looks like scene from a Biblical epic!
It is beautifully composed, with horizontal layers leading us successfully from the textured dry stone wall, right up to the 'message from God' sky.
Have a lovely day,

this is an amazing photo and definitely one of my favorite. I love the way you composed the whole image with the picturesque stone wall in the foreground and wonderful mosaic of the fields on the second plan. The light peeking through the clouds adds some mysterious atmosphere to the picture.
Perfectly balanced contrast and sharpness.
Well done and TFS

no let up yet this winter, storm lashing here as I write this. This shot of the storm though is just wonderful, and especially so in this medium. The tonal quality here adds to the effect and drama superbly. Love it!

Superb image of an atmospheric effect, captured at the right time. The sky is fantastic, with the sun breaking through the clouds and sending shafts of light on to the fields and rolling hills. I like the sense of depth you have achieved here, with the old drystone wall leading our eyes towards the lovely countryside. A great photograph. Well done.

Excellent capture of all these sunbeams appearing from under the dark cloud.
A very well detailed landscape with lots of elements and the entire image looks like a painture.
Very well composed and good inclusion of the attractive fence of stones on the foreground.
Best regards, Paul

A break in the everyday storms, with the rays of light coming from the big black cloud to reveal the landscape scenery.

Nice high contrast b n w with a great sky that provides some mood. Good use of the wall as FG interest too.

Right place at the right time, you have yourself a real beauty here! I get both a heavenly and apocalyptic vibe on this one, quite intriguing. :) The composition is solid, you have interest and depth all the way through, but it's of course the atmosphere of the moment captured that grabs the spotlight. An impressive display of nature, the rays of light streaking out from under the heavy sky are amazing, not super strong, but powerful enough to set the tone for the entire scene. Love the contrast too, this works well as a black & white. Thanks for sharing this moment. Have a great weekend.

This weather is relentless and you must getting some of the worst of it. This b/w photo is wonderfully processed making the best of the rays of light falling on Dartmoor. The dry stone wall in the FG anchors the composition very well and my eyes are then drawn to the delicate branches of the trees in the middle distance.
A very lovely image.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Les - I love this in B&W; the tones and delicacy of your PP work is really lovely with good contrast between the strong textures in the wall and soft, ethereal look of the distant landscape. The sun's rays piercing the clouds complete a beautiful scene. Warm regards Rosemary
PS I hope you are not suffering too much in the storms

The rock wall frames the dramatic stormy monochrome landscape, the fields offset by mature trees, then the distant dark clouds with sun rays penetrating the earth.
subhendu_bagchi (23549) 2014-02-11 18:27
wow, an excellent one in monochrome. It suits for it the best. Great view. Nice valley in middle with fine hilly curve at back. Great foreground detail. Superb catch with those sun beams. Very good one indeed. Tfs.
macjake (48279) 2014-02-12 11:12
well, its easy to see why people are enjoying this scene! Great idea to transfer it to monochrome. Just look at that light! Almost looks like a spaceship is about to emerge from the heavens!
Attractive addition with the rock wall too, as it adds great textures.
wonderful scene all around
delpeoples (50263) 2014-02-14 3:12
I hope you and Gladys are safe and sound with all the awful floods and Armageddon weather! At least you have had some wonderful photo opportunities. This is magnificent, the rays of light have been beautifully defined, the B&W has brought them out beautifully and defined the textures in the FG rocks. A magical shot, congratulations.
Hugs to you and G
