Autumn by the Tamar, a photo from Devon, England

Photographer's Note

It is generally accepted though not completely true that the River Tamar is where Devon ends and Cornwall begins.

The 50 mile long waterway provides a natural county boundary, starting just four miles short of Bude on the north Cornwall coast and flowing south, reaching the sea at Plymouth Sound in south west Devon.

At the estuary, the Tamar merges with the rivers Tavy, Plym and Lynher and you can't think of the Tamar in isolation.

Together, the Tamar, Tavy and Lynher are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Flanked by ancient woodland along lengthy stretches, the rivers also provide rare habitat.

At last we have this beautiful period of the year called autumn. It is at least beautiful for us photographers... A very nicely composed picture here, with the dark trees in elegant forms against the beautiful autumnal colours. Excellent!

Hi Leslie,

A very nice autumn scene. You make excellent use of the not very stron lighting. The balance between the dark (shaded) area and brighter (sunlit) areas along the river is very good. Such areas could easily bet under-exposed and over-exposed. The backlight is also great. The black trunks and branches of the trees really stand out against the colourful foliage. Overhere,is a very pleasant,peaceful painting Les.Ican almost smel the fresh forrest,for me this about the only positive thing of the autumn,for the rest I always hope it will be januari soon as possible ;=]

Leslie, thank you so very much for your kind words and keeping me and my family in your thoughts and prayers. As I try to get back into the mix of things here on TE, I read the critiques of my last two photos and find it very hard holding back tears. It's a picture with a fairytale atmosphere, it's
exciting and as viewer you can "hear and smell"
the silence. The picture has nice warm Autumn
colors and a excellent composition and light
management.
