Contorted and windblown trees are a feature of Dartmoor.
Purple, heather clad moorland, wide open landscapes, rushing rivers and obscure stone tors shape the landscape of Dartmoor. But that is just one small part of a big picture.
There are rolling valleys, bogs and wetland, waterfalls and well trodden paths, ancient, eerie forests and lonely ruins. Sometimes ominous, challenging, extreme, sometimes welcoming, heart warming; always breathtaking, always changing, the landscape of Dartmoor is alive in every sense of the word.

Hi Leslie. the tortured limbs of the tree makes me look for the tortured Heathcliff as he dashes madly across the moors.Excellent choice of B&W accentuates textures and shapes. Regards. Klaudio.

An outstanding composition that does full justice to your note on the famous landscape. The wide angle is used with stunning effect with great exposure and pin sharp details. Compliments and thanks for sharing this superb picture.

inspired use of B&W to make this old ghost of a tree all the more atmospheric and beautifully spooky. Love it!
Have a good week - B.

Hi Les - Tormented Tree ... a good title for this twisted and contorted specimen. Well converted to B&W which suits the subject and has been accomplished very well.

This is a wonderful shot full of atmosphere. I like the POV you chose for the photo, allowing us to see all the twists and gnarls on the trunk and the wide open landscape in the BG. The wide angle lens enhances the subject and the sense of space all around. Your black and white conversion works well and adds to the dynamics of the shot. Very well done.

Dead trees on the foreground like on pictures of desert landscapes. However, there must be sufficient water.
At night this must be a spooky landscape.
Your choice for black & white enhances the alienating atmosphere.
Best regards, Paul

This looks as much like a monster on the run as it does a tree, it seems to have a fine feeling of movement. A beautiful choice to make this black and white, its such a lonely and desolate, and therefore very beautiful scene. Really nice, thanks for sharing.

When I read your note, than I would think at a lovely green area.
But through your black and white picture is exactly a burnt prairie.
Nice panorama view about these area.
Perfect composition and nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

I love the drama in the shot enhanced by the BW version, but I'd love to see the colour version as you have mentioned the heather in your note.
But it is a beautiful shot anyway.

Gidday dear Les
Wow this is spooky, even in daylight. Imagine what this place is like at night! Yikes! Stunning B7W, textures, contrast and light. You have a great POV and superb composition. Very impressive, I can't take my eyes off it. Congratulations.
I hope you're feeling better Les, I haven't stopped thinking about you since you told me your news. Love to Gladys too, please take care of yourself.

Although your most recent picture was hard to resist, I found myself being drawn towards this one tonight. There's a tree near my place which has the same type of "twisted" appeal that I've been meaning to photograph...but it's just too hot right now. :)
Love the monochrome treatment, which gives this kind of a spooky appeal, on what I'm sure is actually quite a pleasant setting. As you mentioned, this does feel alive...I just hope it doesn't reach out and try to snatch someone. lol Seriously though, this is a great shot! Enjoy the new day. All the best.

look at this twisted junk of trunk! haha
can't you see this picture or at least the tree itself being on the cover of a novel or something...it just has that special look and power to it.
love the clouds in the bg too, it all works so well together! what a beauty!

unfortunately I've never been to Dartmoor but exactly like on your picture I've imagined it.
You have perfectly captured the somewhat weird atmosphere of this scene. Very nice. I like scary looking trees and enchanted places. Black and white fits perfectly for it.
All the best
