Windblown trees and granite boulders are one of the features of Dartmoor landscape.
Purple, heather clad moorland, wide open landscapes, rushing rivers and obscure stone tors shape the landscape of Dartmoor. But that is just one small part of a big picture.
There are rolling valleys, bogs and wetland, waterfalls and well trodden paths, ancient, eerie forests and lonely ruins. Sometimes ominous, challenging, extreme, sometimes welcoming, heart warming; always breathtaking, always changing, the landscape of Dartmoor is alive in every sense of the word.

Black and white sets the mood, which is perfect for the scene. The image is very well composed and has excellent depth. A superb range of tones and sharpness to match. A fine example of landscape photography superbly rendered in black and white.

Ciao e buona giornata

Fine piece of work, Leslie. Great pp that brings out the roughness of the place. It has a lost-wilderness kind of feel to it, which is quite timeless. Thumbs up from me.

What a wonderful shot, really well composed ! Stunning DOF and nice effects due to the shapes of the trees, of the clouds and a great treatment in B&W.
Good job !

great work in b n w and it highlights the beautiful clouds, the landscape and the barren tree.

I love the monochrome format in here which really works well with the character of the composition. The cloudy sky, bare stones of the moor and the lonely tree which bears signs of windy weather create in here very special atmosphere. I like the perfectly given contrast and sharpness. Stunning work!
Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of the day

Hi Leslie, love this black and white photo because of the wide view and the wiped out clouds compared to the sharp foreground.
Really a good photo.

Ciao dear Les
This is so spooky, it's given me a shiver up the spine. I love the vignetting, the strong contrasts and clarity. The clouds are amazing and in combination with the bare, wind-blown trees, certainly create the atmosphere of a horror story. very evocative, congratulations.
Hugs, have a happy Sunday

Your shot is very surprizing and attractive.Your black and white choice gives a strong effect to your image.Superb sharpness (the branches of the trees, the details of the rocks) and contrast.Looking at this splendid sky, I feel a fascinating atmosphere. An excellent management of the light.
Really, leslie, you offer us a dramatic but splendid scenery.

You wrote 'eerie' in your note.
You're absolutely right and this strange look is due to your creative 'know how'!
For instance, I have the impression of a pinhole camera caption due to the symmetric vignette effect and of course, those exploded clouds on top of tallest tree add much drama and a 3D-like impression of a capture with a lens-less early experimental camera.
An overall high contrast depiction reinforces the scenery barrenness.
Quite inspiring indeed!

Hello Les - I am slowly catching up with TE after our holiday and I have to say I love this shot. The sky with its definite cloud pattern forms a wonderful bright burst behind the tree before melting into the darker vignette. Dramatic in B&W with a strong reference to the wildness of the Dartmoor landscape. Top class!

Hi Leslie, this is an eye-catching composition, good POV and good framing. B&W makes it even more interesting. Good idea and good realization.
