It has taken hundreds of years for the twisted, moss-covered trees which make up Wistmans Wood to acquire their eerie, ancient, look.
The wood - now a small area beside the West Dart on Dartmoor - used to be very much bigger centuries ago.
The ancient woodland - Devon's oldest wood, dating back to prehistoric times - is a national nature reserve managed by Natural England.

A wonderful nature photo respiring damp and decay. What a combination between the rounded rocks and the twisted trees, all brought in fine shades of green.

Lovely shot. I really like how you have managed the light and your colours are so vibrant. You have captured the essence of this place really well.

a beautiful picture with a good balance between the moss-covered rocks in the foreground and the trees in the background. Good saturation and excellent sharpness.

Hi Leslie Bennett .
Excellent medium key exposure.
Great composition too.

This one just looks "right" - not overdone, not underdone - and the result is a very natural looking photo - of a natural - but the nonetheless extraordinary scene. Spot on.

Just love the intense green of the moss over everything. Good sharpness too of the rocks and trees. Nice tight framing and placement of the big rock in the corner.

Very beautiful nature picture.
Well composed. Nice contrast between the big rocks on the foreground and the branches winding into all directions. Also between the black trunks & branches and the omnipresent green on this picture.
Best regards, Paul

A very fine picture indeed. Very restful and relaxing to look at.
You have the exposure spot-on here with wonderful details in both the brightest parts and the darkest shadows. The picture spans the whole range of shades and depths of green which is beautifully, but not overly, saturated. Good sharpness too.
A lovely shot, Leslie, and an interesting note too!

Oh, is that ever a beautiful shot. As has been mentioned, the exposure is simply perfect. No shadows too dark, no highlights too bright. Wonderful variations in the shades of green and I love those gnarled old trees. Excellent sharpness and detail and the FG rocks lead nicely into the shot. To use an overworked American expression, that is awesome... Many thanks and kindest wishes,
(I love square format photos, too)

Hello leslie ,
Not so easy to capture the light in such dark forests . You've did it very well . The composition , simple , is excellent . Great mood , for sure .

I always admire natural sceneries like this one!
Centuries required to grow up bions in order to create lovely landscapes full of colours and balmy atmosphere! Without human’s interference, nature functions normally.
You captured the mood of nature that I like so much!

I like your gallery. Your eyes are mine in UK. This strange landscape is really interesting and your post is generous. So glad to see you. Friendly greetings

what a charming place. the light that comes down between the branches softens the forms and values the green of moss. I like a lot the wide fg on cliffs in opposition to natural confusion on the bg.
ciao, have a nice evening

Attractive vision in green, moss colored rocks and trees, in fine depth of field.

I love the green tones of the grass and the "hilly" landscape.
The shot is well composed and the sharpness is perfect with well visible details.

This is the place I had in mind when down in Devon last time but I ended up having to put it on the backburner for the spring as I didn't know how to find it (I know now). So I ended up taking shots around Saddle Tor instead.
This is so Lord of the Rings - beautiful landscape, a real shame there are not more of these ancient forests preserved. I believe it's supposed to haunted ....
As has been said you've handled the exposure beautifully.

belle palette de vert ici, parfaitement exposés et cela ne fait pas fouillis malgré la densité des plantes.

A wonderful work, looks like an illustration of a book about fairies, at least it gives me an idea that should appear...
Spectacular shades of green, excellent POV and depth of the shot!
Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you soon!
