This is another shot taken in the woodlands around Burrator, this one shows some of the ancient contorted trees struggling to survive amongst the many moss covered granite boulders.
Burrator Reservoir, near Yelverton, Devon
map ref : LR202 555685
Postcode - PL20 6PE
Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors.
The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips.
The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.
Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.
Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals.
The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available at www.sustrans.co.uk

Wow! this looks creepy and wonderful at the same time. Legacy of the wetness I suppose, this amazing moss covered woodland. You have captured it so beautifully, I love it!

On se croirait dans une scène de film. Étonnant de voir tout ce vert au sol ainsi que sur les troncs d'arbres qui ont des formes très particulières. J'aime beaucoup le cadrage.

An amazing mood in this one with the naked trees and the green moss
good light and natural colors

This is an amazing view of nature. Very eerie atmosphere captured as these moss covered rocks and tree roots look like the dead are rising from the ground. The cordon of barren trees add so much to the mood as well. Nicely spotted and well taken. Thanks for sharing.

This place looks utterly incredible and so beautiful. It looks like an enchanted forest. The twisted shapes of the trees and the thick drapes of trailing moss on the boulders give these woods a magical and otherworldly feel. You've captured this extremely well, and I love the way the foreground trees frame and give depth to this scene. Nicely done.

I have to admit that I've never seen such forests in my country. The woods in Devon are truly beautiful.
The view is a bit of a mixture of an image of a beautiful fairy tale with a more creepy story.
The moss covered granite boulders play an important role. Especially when you look further into the forest, the green boulders seem to take all sorts of guises.
This is how I imagine a primeval forest looks like.
Beautiful play of light and shadow.
Excellent depth and sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

This is a fantastic forest, loking almost artificial. These mossy boulders and mossy trees, stretching their branches towards innocent trekkers, look like they would belong in a horror movie. A very peculiar and interesting natural feature. I hope this unique forest can be preserved.

I like the light here and the way it highlights the textures of tree and moss. The moss covered boulders have a tactile quality. I think the luminosity here despite the crowding trees is what makes this special.

questa foresta ha un'atmosfera molto particolare, sembra creata apposta per una scena di Harry Potter....
Mi piace la luce, crea un bel gioco con le ombre che modella molto bene il terreno.

Stories should be set in this forest, Leslie. It looks... enchanted? Haunted? Depends on the light, probably. You've framed this beautifully, with the trees ringing the real star of the shot, the rolling moss over scattered rocks. Really cool look to this, thanks.

Ancient woodlands really are one of the treasures of our countryside and you have caught this scene impeccably. An interesting note too though I must admit that I always find OS map coordinates difficult to follow unless I actually have an OS map to hand - the more straightforward degrees north and west seem easier to follow and, of course, they are applicable anywhere in the World.
The strong sidelighting has revealed the wonderful textures of the trees and also of the moss-covered rocks beautifully and you have produced a photograph with strong contrasts, yet still we can see full details in both the deepest shadows and also in the brightest parts of the image.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness, best seen at full size of 1400 pixels wide.

Une photo de foret vraiment original je trouve.
Toute cette mousse, cette lumière et ces arbres qui ont un air presque fantomatique donne un vrai caractère a ta composition...

beautiful picture and this special kind which I love so much. There is very nice atmosphere about it enhanced by the shapes of the tree branches and lush moss covering the stones and roots. Very well spotted and executed picture with great light and color management.
Thanks for sharing

wow! This is indeed a nice forest. I can almost smell the moist appearance of this type of dense forest. You presented it superbly with good light and very fine depth. A very nice one. Tfs.

Wow, I love this and do not think I've seen a forest or a photo quite like it before. Stunning light management, I love how the highlights have been turned silver in the sun and enhanced the textures aswell as giving the image a really spooky atmosphere. I'm expecting a witch or a troll to jump out at me at any moment. Pure magic, well done!
Hugs to you and G

This brings to mind fairy tales and legend Les. It's the writhing tree roots and twisted branches, they seem to be possessed of mystical attributes and I can imagine how eerie the place is on a clear moonlit night.
A superb shot, the mosses are beautifully lit and I love the contrasting darkness of the trees.
I was interested in what type of trees these are and seem to think they maybe Alpine Oaks (did a Google search) what do you think?
Have a fine weekend

Such a beautiful natural spot! I just wouldn't like to be there late at night... I'd be completely scared!
Very interesting and attractive picture too, with excellent sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, chosen pov and composition!
TFS - congrats,

This is quite an amazing forest. The moss covered floor and the old and gnarly trees make for a wonderfully unreal landscape that would fit any fairy tale perfectly.
have a great sunday

Attractive Dartmoor Forest scene, a jumble of old growth trees combined with lush green moss encrusted boulders. And the lighting and resolution are excellent.
Nicely composed and created,
mkamionka (31305) 2014-03-25 6:21
this is so beautiful! Having the tree branches only would be fantastic and the interesting moos covered earth as well but having these two amazing patterns in one is really amazing. You have also captured it in a great light which resulted here in a three-dimensional feeling. Beautiful view of nature, incredible geometry.
