Photographer's Note
Dartmoor Gliding Society is a small but very friendly club located on picturesque moorland in beautiful South Devon within sight of the very well known Brentor Church.
The Club was founded in 1983 by a small group of enthusiasts with a twin seat open cockpit glider with a wooden hut to keep it in and a lot of energy to carve out a runway on the top of Burnford Common.
From these humble beginnings the club has steadily progressed to become the thriving gliding community it is today. The club now boasts a well cared for grass runway, a refurbished club house and a purpose built hangar to house the club fleet of 2 twin seat training gliders and 3 single seat gliders.
Launching is by winch only. The site offers good thermal soaring and , when the wind is in the east, Wave to heights in excess of 16000 feet right off the end of the wire.

Hello Leslie - That's one thing I really miss about the UK, no matter what your hobby is there always seem to be like-minded and interested people to associate with. This scene is so typically English! Beautiful light on the 'air traffic control centre' and attractive stormy looking skies beyond. A lovely shot. TFS and warm regards Rosemary

Hello Les,
What a very interesting note - are you a member of this happy group? Have you been gliding? I think that would be wonderful fun. It sounds really great that these people have managed to start up this venture, develop it and keep it going over the last 20 years.
This little structure (which once was mobile but perhaps is no longer) looks rather quaint but I'm sure it's quite up to the job required of it. You have portrayed it nicely here against a dark sky and the distant hills with the enthsuiasts surrounding it.
Lovely vibrant colours, fine lighting, perfect exposure and excellent sharpness.
Wonderful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Leslie,
A nice mobile tower looks like a small trailer home. Nice surroundings. The colors and lighting are superb. Nice place for hobnobbing. A very relaxed atmosphere.

Hi Leslie,
charming building and a very funny scene captured. I like very much your title which adds some humorous touch here. This cute structure is caught at a great light with amazing dark sky in the back.
Excellent work,

Hello Leslie
Of course it's not the latest fashion in airfield facilities, so deprived of a radar antenna, but nevertheless I notice the "dispatcher" can send warning signals through CB radio to high-flying thetered enthousiasts in case of imminent bad weather!
And because of a solar power cell, it pulls way ahead of much larger installations!
Cheers.
Robert
