Good Morning Everyone,
This is the view taken from Devil's Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale.
It is called Devil's Bridge because, legend holds that the Devil appeared to an old woman, promising to build a bridge in exchange for the first soul to cross over it. When the bridge was finished, the woman threw bread over the bridge and her dog chased after it, thereby outwitting the Devil.
Although very calm and tranquil when we were there, on hot summer's days it is a site where people gather to jump into the cool water.
The two tiny figures will give you some idea of the scale. I will, also add an Internet link here which shows a day when people were using this venue as a diving board!
It is also THE gathering place for bikers. On Sundays, parking spaces next to the bridge are reserved strictly for motorbikes. I will add a w/s here with a view of a couple of these bikers.
Sunday is a great day to visit Kirkby Lonsdale!!
Thank you for stopping by. I wish you a great day, Bev :-)

I will choose to ignore the scary legend for the time being and indulge in the beautiful scenery :-).
Excellent framing - like all your others - with lovely colour contrast and details. The beautiful cool water makes me want to take a dip myself as summer temperatures have started to rise in India. Interesting and informative note.
Thanks for sharing and have a great new day.

Nice view along the river. I like the pov and the early spring colors. Well taken.

with the river serenely zig zagging it`s way through the scene it does appear to be a perfect picnic site even in March.
An intriguing photograph and a nice informative note, seems as if that Devil gets everywhere.
Have a good day,Les.

The Devil certainly put himself about a bit, there seems to be a multiplicity of Devil's Bridges, even over here:-) I like the composition and the point of view very much, with the river winding its way into the background making a superb lead-line. The lighting is also very agreeable, and the colours pleasing. Very good clarity.

I really like the view of the river twisting between the rocks and the green tones breaking through the grey dominance among the trees. Spring is struggling winter and my bet is that spring will eventually win. Jumping from the bridge looks fun, if you are considerably younger than I am. (I would probably not have done it even 40-50 years ago.) ;-)

Ciao cara Beverley
un altro bel momento che testimonia l'avvento della primavera anche in Inghilterra.
Alla bella composizione si associa una definizione aottima e colori molto ben definiti e brillanti.
Ciao e buona giornata

not a very nice pet owner this lady eh? But a super shot to accompany the legend. Love the enticingly graceful curves of the waters and the glorious light making the scenery here look so calming and beautiful. Stunning place!
Regards - B.

Le regard suit naturellement la rivière qui sillonne dans la belle campagne anglaise, ce qui donne de la profondeur à la composition. La lumière est belle et on sent bien le printemps qui pointe le bout de son nez.

Fine rocks here too, but the best thing in this picture is of course the capture of the river that runs in a pleasant S-form. An interesting note too and a good complementary picture. A beautiful bridge, judging from other TE uploads from Kirkby Lonsdale.

what a wonderful piece of nature with excellent light and natural warm tones. I really love the look and feel of this shot. My compliments also for the interesting notes and links - reading your notes and seeing the photograph made me feel as if I was seeing this with my own eyes.

let me guess before reading the note...this is near your house? :)
haha...it took me awhile to actually locate the 2 people sitting down, man that took a long time lol
and yes, it does help with the scale and size perspective.
fun story about the Devil and souls being taken, seems fitting for one of Noel's photos with Castles :)
a fine nature pic entering into the weekend.

Good thing that old lady still had her wits about her, smart gal she was to trick the devil...I wouldn't have been so fortunate, because I would have immediately crossed the bridge looking for the best position to take a picture!? :) By the way, my evil half loves the name of this bridge. lol
Glad you mentioned the people in the near distance, I wouldn't have noticed them otherwise, and you're absolutely right...they really put the scale into perspective here. Super composition, you've utilized the rivers snake-like flow to guide us into the distance with ease while being able to slowly enjoy the natural surroundings and pleasant sunlight. Bright, sharply focused and lovely details throughout. Enjoy the new day. All the best.

Apparently you had crossed the bridge safely, did not encounter any devil on, Beverly.
Nice legend told, made me smile when red.
Pic. showing nicely the curving stream, between rocks and forest, fine DOF and clarity through.
Superbly showen the water texture in the FG, with slight ripples.
Pleaseure to look at, have a nice Friday,

Clever use of the opposite S bend in the river to lead the eye into the image, with a downward POV to show all the elements in the image. Natural colours from the cold looking Spring weather. Looks like a sound place to relax.

I love the reversed 's' shape of the meandering stream which adds good lead in lines and natural perspective with the banks converging towards the back. A nice high pov with superb sharpness. I guess you were on a bridge judging from the shadow. Have a great weekend!
nikkitta (16476) 2014-03-29 14:38
Great POV obtained from the bridge
Impessive winter landscape, well organized with the frozen waters of the river leading the way to the very back
The interesting legend adds a touch of scarry at the scene while the WS tells not to go there on Sundays
Wish you a good WE
