Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Some of you may know that the Lake District is one of my favourite places to visit and photograph.
This particular shot was taken at the edge of Derwentwater during that immensely cold spell in 2010 when the temperature dropped to -17°C. The view is from the eastern edge of the lake, looking across to the hills beyond Keswick.
My husband and I had set off to walk the western half of the lake, with the intention to catch the bus back to Keswick. Oh, the best laid plans often go astray! When we reached the southern end of the lake, there was a two hour break in the bus schedule and we had to walk the entire periphery of the lake to get back to our destination!
You can imagine, the cold and fatigue took its toll. We needed the warmth of a cosy pub, and a couple of tots of whisky before we could proceed to our lodgings!!
But the sights were utterly beautiful!
Thanks for stopping by, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
An interesting note about this lovely place as well as your ordeal of an overly long walk! How many miles was that? And in freezing cold too. Still, I'm pleased to note that you had some whisky - and not "whiskey" as so many others seem to spell it - "whiskey" is either Irish or American - "Scotch" is simply "whisky"!
As soon as I saw this picture, I immediately recalled this picture which I took a couple of years ago during my first ever TE meeting. That picture was taken of Buttermere but the rocks in the foreground look exactly the same as the ones in your present photograph.
But here the contrasts are delightful - the calm water, the shore, those rocks and the trees all stand out beautifully against the snow clad hills behind. And, as you always seem to manage, you still have some nice blue sky against which the hills themselves stand out perfectly - so often I find that snow covered hills just blend into a pale sky.
Gorgeous soft colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Beverley,
Super capture, looks a white blanket has been thrown over the hills.
You need to invest in a couple of hip flasks.
Regards Arnie.

Bonjour Beverly,
On dirait que les collines sont recouvertes d'une couverture blanche très lumineuse. J'aime le point de vue bas qui donne de l'ampleur au paysage et qui utilise bien les rochers à l'avant plan.
Amicalement

Hi Bev,
A very beautiful view! I was here in 1958, but it rained all that day, I would really like to see this area again...
My first impression of this picture was that someone and covered the background hills in polyethylene film, I saw the wrinkles so clearly. And now I can´t get rid of this impression!
It doesn´t look that cold here, no ice on the lake. It looks quite pleasant and peaceful here.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Good evening Beverly,
Layers on picture with good taste: from the lake surface, through the forest and up the snoey mountain, in fine contrast.
DOF and clarity well collected, the place looks wonderful stroll location.

Hi Beverley,
A lovely picturesque image of the Derwent - lovely soft natural colours & the cold icy virgin snow on the hills.
Sorry for my late response too many other things keeping me busy.
Kindest regards,
Dawn.

That was some walk Bev! Perhaps worth it just for the couple of tots. Mind you,as your shot clearly shows the scenery is superb. This is lovely with the woodland in the mid-ground backed by the snow-covered hills and fronted by the lake and stony shore. I like the inclusion of the tree on the LHS; it gives depth and immediacy to the very fine view. Lovely work a pleasure to see. Have a super weekend from a still very hot Windhoek! Rosemary

Hello Bev,
I have to admit that this is a landscape that I did not expect to find in the UK. But I still have much to learn.
On the right on the distance we see a part of a town but all the rest seems to be a virgin, unspoiled piece of nature. Of breathtaking beauty!
The picture has an excellent composition, a good DOF and is very pleasent and relaxing to look at.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Beverley
A surprising landscape from the UK that could at first be mistaken for somewhere in New Zealand or Canada. Good sharpness & well composed using the rule of thirds. The fg rocks add depth & their repetition enhances the compo. I like the muted colours too. Tfs!
