Good Morning Everyone,

We have been suffering with a lot of grey, damp weather which becomes a bore day after day. There is a need for change.

As luck would have it, we had been invited to stay with friends for a few days in the Lake District. For me, The Lakes are like coming home!

The weather was just as grey for the first day but on the second, yes we had mist but when it is mixed with the prospect of sunshine. It is a great combination!

This is Derwentwater mid-morning. The strengthening sunshine caused a blanket of mist to gather across the surface of the water.

It was worth the wait!

Hi Beverley,

the word that comes into my mind looking at this image is "stillness" both as synonym of calm, tranquillity and as synonym of lack of movement.An effect obtained from the light, gloomy and suffused and from the perfect reflection of various objects on the waters of the lake.Good composition with the small jetty to well introduce this scene.

there is a lovely mood to this picture with the filtered light coming through the mist. the boats are placed well and the little jetty is fantastic leading the viewer into the scene and providing depth to the picture.

I like the muted colours. This one would work equally well in b&w. Id be tempted to rope off the 2 bright highlights apply a large feather margin, invert then adjust levels to increase brightness & contrast. It would give a different mood though. Tfs!

Wonderful, almost monochrome, image with great reflection. I wondered initially if the bright area at the top was a distraction but without it the image really doesn't work anything like as well. The light breaking through at least gives hope for a decent day ahead.

The grey and mist along with a unique mild light gave you a marvelous opportunity for this image, Beverly.
An impressionist painter would have done the same!
Great reflections on smooth water surface, and the wooden small jetty leads the view.
We had a sunny day today, after 6 stormy weather days, not usual to our winter.

Hello Bev,

I was wonderng if this picture was taken near this spot, just in Keswick itself and about 10 minutes' walk from the centre of town?

Wherever it was taken, the lighting is really most unusual, the watery sun trying to break through the thick mist above the lake, the colours very subdued and with the line of boats beautifully silhouetted against the distant mist and hills. The inclusion of just a little bright sunlight and its reflection really adds a lot to this one.

Interesting lighting, perfect exposure (in difficult conditions) and excellent details and sharpness.

How do British lakes manage to be so superior to many other lakes - at least on photography?

Unusual weather conditions give unusual pictures! Almost grey and black, but with some blue area in the sky, a moody and quiet atmosphere, well framed in backlight.

Hello Bev,
just peeking in to TE as I've been away for a while. This is a beauty! Nicely composed with the jetty and black posts counter balanced by the buoys. This is more like an etching on pewter than a photograph. Delicious the way the sun peeks from the top frame. The little boats too with their silhouettes, like a fairy tale version of Swallows and Amazons.

Dear Beverley,
a fantastic and very well composed impression of this already well known place under a moody sky. The light and the colors are wonderful and the photographer’s perspective is excellent. I agree to the others here – the image is a “stunner”!
