The remains of the steam engine pump room of the Carn Galver Tin Mine in Cornwall, England. The mine employed about 70 miners and was worked until 1878. Overlooking the sea this ruin is about 8 miles west of St Ives. Carn Galver means "rock pile at the lookout place". It has been partly restored by the English National Trust.
Regrettably I have found it necessary to add a discrete watermark to my images posted on TE as some have been hi-jacked and are now being used commercially on other websites, without my permission.
I realise it is impossible to stop people sharing images once posted on the internet and I have no real issue with that, it is flattering to know that they like them that much………but to make money from them is another matter and infringes copyright.
My anti-virus software dislikes the forums on TE! So please do not think I am rude if I do not answer any comments or questions raised…………

The cloudy sky and subdued lighting creates a particular atmosphere that suits the subject perfectly. Good choice of the vertical format. Excellent colour contrasts and very good rendering of the textural detail in the stonework. Very interesting note as well.

nicely composed and framed scene!
I like this strong contrast in light and colors between upper part of the image(grey sky)and bottom of it with so bright, vivid colors and good light.
And of course the tower itself.Even if ruined,it still looks so charming(great presentation of it with all details and textures).
Have a nice weekend

Hello Brian - I really like this shot. The old engine house looks quite magnificent with the smoke stack pushing upwards to the sky. Nice little details too like the sea just visible above the greenery and the contrasting colours of the stone and brick of the building. An excellent sky too. I always feel a little nostalgic when I see these mines and think of the renowned tin-miners who migrated to all corners of the earth where their skills were in high demand. A fine and beautifully managed shot. Have a lovely weekend. Rosemary

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Ce vestige d'activité industrielle est un peu comme un monument à la mémoire de tous les mineurs ayant travaillé ici. Tu en as réalisé une excellente photo.

Well composed, clear and sharp with great sky - all your signatures. I was a little disappointed that you didn't take a step more and call it smokestack lightning - by my favourite bluesman Howling Wolf!
olive224 (2583) 2013-10-19 1:50
A kind of surrealistic post treatmend, extra saturated, but although....realistic.... how do you do that ? lol !!
macjake (45588) 2013-10-20 2:04
who doesn't enjoy the occasional smoke stack right?!
I know I do...and with red/crimson brick like this its easy to see why.
amazing to think this is all but whats left of the steam engine pump room. they left the best part for us! haha
lovely sharpness and detailing, and same with the color pallet.
npecanhuk (56382) 2013-10-20 6:08
