This is Marhamchurch - "Marwenne's Church": the church of the village.
The patron saint appears in the story of the village at the end of the fifth century. St. Marwenne is thought to have established her hermitage on the site where the War Memorial now stands, thus initiating the first ecclesiastical settlement in the village to which she gave her name. For more that fourteen and a half centuries a succession of churches has stood on the hill top ; and the present church, itself is five centuries old.

just love little places like this in Devon & Cornwall. So peaceful and full of character. When the spring sun shines they are just idyllic and irresistible, as this shot captures beautifully.

This is a beautiful shot with fine contrast between the dark sky and brightly lit foreground. The Cross in the foreground adds nice depth for the scene. The stone wall adds a nice point of interest in the foreground.

A beautifull composition, and for me the star of the show is the detailed carved cross on the right. An amazing level of detail for what I guess is a very old monument. The sky has presented a perfect backdrop to this historic and very beautiful scene.
Interesting name of this saint too, I have never heard it before.

Fine view in subdued light, with the ancient tombstones foreground, impressive Christ statue, then the medieval Marwenne's Church, and enhanced by the dramatic cloud background.

Hello dear Les
WHat a beautiful little church. This is exactly what I think of when I picture an English country church. beautiful light, and wonderful colours. The garden and the intricacy of the cross in the FG are really exquisite. Well done and I hope you are both keeping in good health.
Warmest wishes and hugs

very attractive presentation, the light is quite challenging but adds a suitable here dramatic touch. I like the vegetation covered fence in the foreground, The clouds are very well emphasized as well.

very beautiful pictures.
It is very fascinating and at the same time misterious!! I like very much your churches with cemetery. The colour of the sky is really fantastic.
