I have heard about Chester for the first time when I have seen emka photos from this beautiful old town. It could be just my ignorance but for some reason the town is not very popular on TrekEarth either. It has a very well preserved old town which I enjoyed much more than a very touristy York. I did not have too much time over there as Chester is also famous for its ZOO which is ranked as the best in the UK and one of the best in the world, so obviously travelling with a little child this ZOO became a higher priority than the old town. Fortunately or not I had a chance to do a bit of both. The weather was far from optimal but I wanted very much to mark this place on my TE map hence this photo here. Again not very original: I have used the same POV as emka, photo taken from the second most famous clock in the UK which provides a slightly elevated perspective. What may be is a bit different here is that I used a wide angle zoom. I was tempted to do HDR here but I decided to stick to natural with some little improvements.

Hi Mariusz, the 3D effect of this pic is fantastic,it seems to be there watching this street! An endless composition caught in a perfect symmetry as i like and with the best detail everywhere despite the dark light! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Bardzo mi sie podoba miejsce z ktorego zrobiles zdjecie. Dluga ulica, ciekawa architektura i swietna perspektywa.
Moim zdaniem wystarczyly drobne korekty bez uciekania sie w hdr aby uzykac klimat tego miejsca. Dobra prezentacja

Despite the overcast sky we get a good and clear view of this street with interesting architecture at both sides.
The picture has a very good depth.
With its many pedestrians in the middle of the street, this view has a lot of charm.
Best regards, Paul

Dobrze mi znany widok. To właśnie jest misja TE- zachcic innych do odwiedzenia miejsc ciekawych, a mało popularnych.
Pozdrowienia z lasów i jezior

We were in Chster in 8/1993, and must say this place had not changed a bit.
Same street, as viewed from the beautiful bridge - always filled with people/tourists stroll by.
Nice taken shot, really no need for a sharper image, my humble opinion about.
Enjoy an nice weekend,

Now Chester looks pleasant enough and seems well worth the visit. The half timbered houses are beautiful and your perspective with the long street vanishing in the distance very dynamic.
have a great weekend

A very interesting note about Chester. I lived not far from there until I was eleven years old and I vaguely seem to recall having been there once, but it's a distant memory. I'd love to go back sometime. And one of my daughters, while she was studying zoology at Liverpool, spent quite some time at Chester zoo working.
This is a lovely photograph in which there is just an incredible amount to look at and examine closely - hundreds of people in this street and some very fine old architecture too. Although the weather wasn't great for walking around, the light is lovely and soft and I think that often (as in this case) makes the colours more vibrant - and, of course, you don't have problems with too much contrast.
Unfortunately, as we discussed before, the "shrinking" of this picture on the "new" TE site from 800 to 790 pixels in width has definitely caused problems here with image quality but, when we view this picture at its "proper" size (or look on "beta" TE), we can see just how incredibly clear and sharp it is.

Your POV is great using the buildings to lead the eye through the scene. The people add life for the scene. The depth of the scene is well captured here.

I knew you would like Chester.
It is steeped in history and has some wonderful features for a photographer. Of course, for a young person, the zoo is far more interesting!
I love how the street appears so very busy!
It adds life to this very interesting street, showing how old buildings have adapted to the modern world. I am surprised that there are cars on the street for it seems to be a pedestrianized area.
A fine viewpoint gives a strong sense of depth and perspective.
My warm regards,

Gama Twoich pocztowek niema granic ;)

Here the color is given by the houses at the sides, charming ones with red bricks and wooden
Like the perfect perspective and presence of people, few cars, seems like a pedestrian one
Are you working for HSBC as an advertising agent?

beautiful shot, even if the light is not at your side. I always admire that ability. From this POV you have a really good vantage point as if you were lifted up in the middle of the street and looking down at this scenery. Nice details all the way to the vanishing point. Very good work.

Sensational great perspective you got on this street, so cheerful people, magnificent and beautiful buildings on both sides, with half-timbered houses, including brick, a great set for recreation.
Very nice colorful tones very effective.
Good management of light and good sharpness, despite the slightly overcast day ..
Have a nice day.
All the best, have a great week,

At glance what I love most is the combination of harmonious colours: dark matured brown & white of the beautiful old buildings and the grey sky. A lovely view of this historic busy city, a cool shot indeed on which i think this is one of those places that you can instantly fall in love with, an artists or photographers dream location. Wonderfully oriented with no converging verticals, the symmetry, pleasant exposure control and the depth offered by the long pedestrian mall lending it a really good effect. Specks of vivid colours have further boosted so much liveliness to this shot. A superb snippet of this beautiful city, smartly taken. My compliments

macjake (69777) 2014-08-26 16:46
are you sure this isn't Gdansk?
looks like it alot!
seems like you're always saying now that you have very very little time to take photos, but the payoff is you have a beautiful child to share your time with :)
and I know how much you enjoy filling out your 'map'!
you must be glad to add this one in.
and about the atmosphere, well, not every photo needs a perfect blue sky with large puffy clouds. These types add a mood that the other cannot.
the tight perspective on the left is great, I feel really close to the walls there.
excellent shot once again.
see you around

ladna perspektywa ulicy, dobry strzal z dobrego POV. No i architektura - tez przyciaga uwage. Dobra prezentacja.
adores (45889) 2014-08-28 16:32
It's a really nice postcard and in spite of the cloudy weather, you managed light very well and got really good detail. I like the pov and composition with all those people around. Good work!

Interesting and attractive busy street!
I love all those façades... they're so nice!
A very beautiful picture too!
Management of light, colors, sharpness, chosen pov and composition truly pleased me!
TFS - congrats,

Thanks for this presentation of Chester. Good example of a daily life photo, excellent choice of the point of view, perfect technic quality, fine DoF.
I just need a British music for full effect... well done. TFS!

Chester seems to offer very nice picturesque views, I really like the architectural harmony of this street. The fact that you've taken the photo from a high 'but not too much) POV provides a great framing.
Thanks for having added the location in photos settings, it's always useful.
