The name is a bit Hollywood-like, but it well represents dramatic events happened on that bridge. It was built over the railway which used to connect Moscow and Kiev, passing near the Chernobyl station (after the disaster trains were routed in alternative way). The top photo is taken from the center of the bridge and looks at northern end (you can see Pripyat town there). The southern end looks at the station (bottom photo).

01.23, April 26th, 1986. The 4th block just exploded and there is fire at the station. Deadly clouds of higly radioactive smoke and dust are transported by strong wind in direction to Pripyat town...

To limit the access of public to the station, two block-posts of road police (GAI) were put. One block at the northern end of the bridge, and one at the southern.

The northern post was protected from wind by bridge height, while southern post was open to all winds. Those who worked at northern end are alive, those who were at southern end died shortly after April 26.

Really a dramatic story, Igor'...

Hello Igor

a great journalistic approach for this double image. I also like the straight forward manner in which you've composed these two scenes.

Thanks for sharing

Emmanuel
