The graveyard of barges in a river port of Chernobyl town.
Chernobyl (former population 12.5, present ~5) is a second abandoned town in the abandonment zone near the expoded Chernobyl Nuclear station.
However, after all its population was removed in 1986, the need to accomodate those who work in the zone became aparent. Also, radiation level in Chernobyl is only 2-3 times higher than a normal one (except several points, like this and other graveyards of equipment).
Nowadays around 10.000 stalkers (firefighters, police, medics, technical and auxilary units) live and work at the zone, residing mainly in Chernobyl (4 days in/3 out or 15 in/15 out schemes).
Talking about barges, they there used to transport lead, sand and construction materials directly to Chernobyl station. Thus, they became highly contaminated by radiaotio and had to be abandoned, put on forever sleep in Chernobyl river port. |

Hello Igor,
A sad and impressive photo, well taken...
All the best,
Hulya
Hello! Nice shot from a Chernobyl river-boat station. Interesting to see this place in winter time when the river Pripyat is frozen. Good colors. Regards! Andrzej
