This is my third shot of Swallow's Nest - a symbol of the Crimea.

The Swallows' Nest castle is located some 8 miles west of Yalta. It was built on top of the cliff, thus the name, in 1912. It was actually the villa of a rich German industrialist who wanted his summer retreat to be built like a Reine castle.

In 1927 there was a strong earthquake in Yalta and part of the rock underneath the castle fell into the sea. The building was closed to visitors for years until in the seventies the restoration works started and later an Italian restaurant was opened there.

Great shot. It was nice to have the castle on the right but have all the sea for most of the photo

That composition is ingenious! Horizon barely visible, and castle on the right.
Framing is clever too. I wonder if you specially reserved this for n:o 100?

Hi Dan,
nice composition, and nice colours here. It's such a incredible view. And what a feeling looking down the cliff... WHOOOOAAAA.
Like a child I thought that in Black Sea is really black water ;))

Congratulations on your 100th, Dan! The format is nice, but I don't like it as much as your other one from here. It's the red - it reveals that you didn't just discover a romantic castle on an outcrop, but were accompanied by a hoard of tourists...

Hi Dan
Congratulations for your 100th !
I like very much how you placed the main subject in the photo, improving and increasing the deepness of the water to the castle.
Very well done
JP

The vast ocean as a backdrop certainly makes this place look small, perched up on the outcrop. You're panaramic composition works well to further emphasize that as well.

I like this photo more than the other vertical crop you have. This looks like a really nice place... maybe the colors are a little pale but it's ok.

Roy

Dan, this is a very effective composition. It shows very well how the Swallow's Nest juts out over the sea. It is an historically important building yet also somehow small and insignificant surrounded as it is by that expanse of blue.

Smooth

Very good picture Dan,
the elements and composition of the photo is well done with the subject of the photo at the right side and the boat in the sea.

Well done.

Hi Dan
What a spectacular castle. It looks mighty impressive poised on the cliffedge like that. I like the composition, it really shows the extreme placement of the building site.
