Photographer’s Note

The Spaso-Preobrazhenskiy cathedral has been erected 1776-1788 on a place former wooden church. Throughout 1882-1892 a capital reconstruction was done in which result the cathedral has been expanded. The 56-metre belfry predominates in an architectural composition. The elements of the Renaissance, late baroque and classicism are combined in architecture of the cathedral. Attract attention pig-iron three-metre statues, the Corinthian columns, the gilt domes with versatile poppy-heads, two leveled porticoes. The interior is decorated by remarkable picturesque works on the bible themes executed by the outstanding artist Makovsky. The cathedral iconostasis made of malachite and white marble is the real unique masterpiece.
