Two cranes perched on a wooden monument of wheat stalks against a blue sky. Quite reminiscent of the Ukrainian flag, which is divided into a top half that is blue to represent the sky and the bottom half is yellow to represent the wheat. Ukraine has been a major producer of wheat for a long time now, due to the rich black soil and favorable conditions.
This picture was taken on the way to a selo (village) called Verbka, in Vinnitskaya Oblast' last summer. One of my grandmothers lives there and when we visit, throughout our drive from Cherkasy through Vinnitskaya Oblast', we constantly see cranes building nests on light poles and other tall structures. It's quite interesting, really. This one was the most interesting, seeing as the cranes were perched on one of Ukraine's symbols. :) |
