Photographer's Note

One of the striking things about Ukraine is the great difference in eveyday life between the countryside and provincial towns on the one hand, and the major cities on the other. In most countries there is noticable difference in this respect, but in Ukraine it is particularly pronounced. Whilst small town Ukraine is like taking a trip back in time, Lviv is a city of chic cafes, has tight planning controls to maintain the completely unspoilt 18th/19th C city centre, and has all the cultural events taking place that you'd expect from any major central European city.

I particularly liked this cafe, which was part of a mordern art gallery, selling paintings, sculptures and a range of objet d'art. It was at the end of obscure street, off the tourist trail, and was definatley catering for local art lovers, rather than selling tourist tat.

I couldn't decide on the crop, I rather liked the doorway frame, and keeping as much of the buildings in the frame as possible, on the other hand, it leaves rather too much white space in the middle. Workshops welcome.
