Photographer’s Note
The orthodox church in Vorokhta represents typical Hutsul style in sacral architecture. Last year the church has been repaired. Old wall’s siding has been replaced with the new yellow one and the layer on the spires has been coated with the new golden lamina.
The Hutsul is a highlanders ethnic group of Ukrainian origin. They live in the Carpathian valleys mainly in Zakarpatska Oblast (Region) in south-western Ukraine close to the Romanian border. The group strictly preserves its folklore traditions and rituals which is clearly visible during ceremonies like weddings, funerals and religious holidays. Most of Hutsuls are sheep shepherds and spend a lot of their time working on vast pastures of Czarnohora mountain range.
