The woman pictured here lives in the Ukrainian Carpathian village of Sokoliwka. She is tending her great-granddaughter. My sister and I were especially introduced to her when we visited this place because this same woman took care of our great-grandfather in his last years. He'd been the village pastor here and her father had been the parish's cantor. My great-grandfather died in 1947. We visited in 1996.
