Photographer’s Note

This shot was taken from Sarych cape. In the picture you can see another cape, Ayya. About 5 kilometers from Sarych cape the seaside resort town of Foros is situated. At Foros state residency 18 years ago (from the date of taking this picture) the first and last President of Soviet Union, Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, was spending his vacation. He could see a sunset like this one not knowing that it was a warning about the end of Soviet Union’s era. When the President was out of his office, the 1991 coup d'état attempt began in Moscow on August 19 and was defeated on August 21. After that, as soon as on August 24, Ukraine and later other Soviet Republics declared their independences.

It is a beautiful sunset, but moreover it is a great scenary with such high cliffs. I do not know much about Ukraine, I have to admit, and this picture is interesting also for this.

Yes, dear friend, each sunset is followed by sunrise. Meaningful metaphor of the end of an empire and the birth of a free State. The history repeats its, as for the Roman empire or the Egyptian empire. Unfortunately it will have to be repeated again. The photo is really beautiful, compliments!

This part of the Black Sea coast reminds me of Northern Norway!
This is a well composed presentation, but most of all the atmosphere is nicely recorded...

Hello Sergiy, Amazing an every day occurrence yet we are so fascinated by it, I guess it's not only because of it's beauty & romance but also because each one is different. Spectacular colours in the sky, perfect exposure & good natural looking colours through out, nice, the silhouette forms an interesting diagonal across the bottom.A lovely image.

nice sunset. I liked the heavy shapes of the cape and the softnes of the light and colors over the sea and sky. nice pov and framing. about gorbachov, I guess it was the time about the end of soviet union, some artificial structures of power can't resist for much time
