Photographer’s Note
Recently I was asked by one of my favorite TE artists: “What's happening with the gas thing? We're freezing here!".
I could answer nothing. Nobody knew. Only I could do was to get sad and frozen, as this guy in the picture…
But today I have good news:
“Russian gas supplies have been restored to the majority of Eastern and Central Europe two weeks after being halted in a row between Moscow and Kiev. Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, and Turkey are now receiving gas, as well as Ukraine, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria. …” (BBC News, 10:30 GMT, 21 January 2009)
It seems that the Gas War I is over. Ukraine and Russia have come to an agreement. I think this has happened not only because Ukraine has the world’s finest banknotes (Ukrainian_hryvnia), but also because we have the world’s most good-looking prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko…
Now we have the hope that it is going to be warmer for all. The spring is coming soon. There is hope!
“There is hope!” is the name of a song sung by the popular Ukrainian rock group “Mad Hads XXL”. Its refrain is as the following:
Do poki sontse syayye,
Doki voda teche,
O-oh, nadiya ye!
Likha bida minaye,
Prosto povir u tse!
O-oh, nadiya ye!
Or in my translation into a language similar to English:
Until the sun is shining,
Till the water is running,
O-oh, there is hope!
Any troubles will be over,
Simply believe in this!
O-oh, there is hope!
I believe that such hope is seen in the picture as the sunlight warming the pipe and the guy…

Your message was conveyed well with the frozen water coming out of the pipe. Both the man and the water are waiting for the sun to creep lower and offer up its warmth.

Bonjour Segiy.
Le graphisme est bien trouvé avec, à côté, l'eau gelée pour évoquer le douloureux problème des gens privés de gaz en plein hiver. Heureusement la situation normale a été rétablie.
Bien vu !

Hi Sergiy,
Your image and message are understandable.
In America our gas prices have been driven upwards by greed. Greed by the oil companies and greed by the Wall Street commodites speculators.
There is hope however. More interest and engineering is now being done on alternative energy sources for transportation.
Sincerely,
Ray

Immagine tetra e preoiccupante, molto ben eseguita. La llinea che divide la faccia in due sembra più un simbolo che un gioco di luce e ombra. Immagine particolare ma carina. Ciao D.

Excellent art work shot. Even if part of it is in the shades the diagonal line makes it very exciting. I also like the note and symbolism. Very nice photo job and really well spotted. TFS and have nice weekend!
Cheers,

Hi Sergiy. Nice picture. Light well managed in this nice composition.
Your settings really cause a wonderful frozen effect on the water :-)
Where do I vote for the most beautiful prime-minister? :-)
Glad that Russia and Ukraine solve that problem for now. Regards. PAulo

Hello Sergiy, I can only imagine the problem these people are experiencing, to day in Melbourne the temp will 40 degrees C. Your photo serves to highlight this problem well. WE say while there is life there is hope. Interesting shot, well realised.
Thank you

Hi Sergiy,
You turned the grafitti artist's work into your own work of art. Phil's comments describe this perfectly.

Hello Sergiy!
Very good piece of graphic art, together with the snow and frozen water, whih you have caught very well to bring forward your message about the gas problem!
Now, there is hope, thanks in part to your beautiful primeminister! I really hope that your orange revolution will work and that you will maybe one day be part of Europe?
Kind regards.
Marie Louise.

Hello Sergiy,
I was more attracted to this photo by the title which sounds strange. After reading your note, it is clear and well fitting to the photo.
I think what happened this winter is only the first step of energy war. I do not think it will go better in the coming years.
Yves.
