Morning in Wooden Town Photo

Photographer’s Note

This settlement, resembling a medieval Slavonic town, is actually All Saints Skete of Sviatohirsk Lavra. The lavra is one of the most respected monasteries of Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

I was finishing my long-distance photo-cycling tour over West Russian Caucasia and East Ukraine, when after my last open-air overnight stop I found myself in a wild field with this ancient-style architectural ensemble. No modern buildings were seen around. In addition, the morning sun lightened the skete in such a fairy way. But it was too early and I could not get inside because only local dogs were not sleeping at that time.

The soft and pleasant morning light brings out many beautiful deatils of this wooden church. The long line of the palisades divide this picture between sky and green vegetation. A very fine composition!

You have some beautiful church architecture in your country. On this church there are so many crosses; one on each pinnacle. The early morning light is casting wonderful golden tones on the scene. Good work
