Photographer’s Note
Typical landscape of Donbas looks mostly like a hilly or even mountainous terrain. This is mainly due to enormous number of coil mines and other coal producers in that region. There are hundreds of man-made mounts which in English can be called as slag heaps, dirt piles, waste piles, waste banks, pit refuse heaps, spoil heaps, muck stacks and so on. In Russian such a heap is named "terrikon" or "terrikonik" from the French words "Terri" (rock debris) and "Conique" (conical). They really are conical, pyramidal or of more intricate shape, as you can see in picture, which was taken at the outskirts of Shakhtarsk city (its name is from the Ukrainian word “shakhtar” meaning a miner) near the mine named after Chapayev. It seemed to me that the right-hand heap resembled a pyramid, while the left one looked more like a sphinx. So I included the image into my small theme "Egyptian Pyramids out of Egypt" as the final item (see the 1st and 2nd ones).

Hi Sergiy,
very nice reference to the Egyptian Pyramids. Although we know those hills are artificial, their intregration in the scenery is pleasant and attractive. It's worth it to be shot as you well do. Love the softness in the colors and the general clarity. Great job!

Carlos

Hello Sergiy,
We have also many pyramids in the North of France !!! Old mine fields too. It is true that these spoil heaps have the appearance of pyramids which can reach important tops. I had the occasion to be able to go up on one of them, it is also really appreciable place to have a dominant sight on the landscape. A photograph with the panoramic format nicely realized with very pleasant colors and a good light. Thank you for the interesting note Sergiy.
With all my friendships and a very good end-of-day,
Jean-Charles

HI Sergiy,
Well you certainly have fooled me on the thumbnail. It made me look. Ha.
Regardless, I enjoyed it, it show yet another nature area of your Homeland, something that most of us don't know much about. I love redding soil against the beautiful blue sky and lovely green vegetation. Nice composition and beautiful day with beautiful light. Thanks.
