Photographer’s Note
Following on from my previous posting, here’s a closer look at the Aletsch Glacier. Having seen the glacier from a distance, we really had not appreciated the scale of the ice. As we approached, the ice became ever more huge until it dwarfed us.
At about 24km long, this is the longest glacier in the Alps, and scientists at the Swiss Federal Institute in Zurich have measured the glacier in one place to be over 900m thick! Standing close to the ice I really felt overawed by its scale, and a feeling of cold radiated out from it.

Hello Susanna,
Very interesting vue of the glacier Aletsch. The scale is given by the people at the bottom. The holes in the glacier give the impression of melting ice, what is unfortunately very actual.
Kind regards - Franco

Hello Susanna!
This photo reminds me the view of the Franc Joseph Glacier in New Zeland. It's something absolutely spectacular standing beside this moving and cracing block of ice, isn't it?
Good luck*

Hi Susanna,
Special rough landscape. Tones of brown ground and blue ice are delicate. Shadows and highlights well presented. The scale is very hard to conceive without those people. Magical place.

A lovely sharp shot - you've managed the lighting well and brought out much detail and texture even in the shadow. The people were essential in this shot ... before I noticed them, I didn't realise the scale of the whole thing. Nice one.
Best wishes

Salut Susanna

Hi Susanna,
This is great, really impressive and spectacular image. I like the contrast between the fantastic environment and little people. Composition is very effective, clarity is superb. Very well done! Have a nice weekend

Without the people we would have difficulty envisaging the scale here. Even the bits broken off are huge; some bigger than your companions. You have captured wonderful texture in the ice too. Well done

salut Susanna

Hi Susanna,
Fabulous shot showing us a section of the glacier. I love the texture and the change in color.
That man on the slope looks so tiny!

Bonjour Susanna,
Daniel.
