The area of the canton is 7,105 km². Only about a third of this is commonly regarded as productive land. Forests cover about a fifth of the total area. The canton is almost entirely mountainous, comprising the highlands of the Rhine and Inn river valleys. Many of its scenic areas are part of the Swiss National Park or the Ela Nature Park.
There are many significant elevations in the Grison Alps, including the Tödi at 3,614 m and the highest peak Piz Bernina at 4,049 m. Many of the mountain ranges feature extensive glaciers, such as at the Adula, the Albula, the Silvretta, the Bernina, the Bregaglia and the Rätikon ranges. The mountain ranges in the central area are very deep, some of which are considered the deepest valleys in Europe. These valleys were originally settled by the Raetians (Rhaeti), a people of Celtic origin.
The canton borders on Liechtenstein to the north, Austria to the north and the east, Italy to the south and southeast, and the cantons of St. Gallen to the north west, Canton of Glarus, Uri to the west, and Ticino to the south west. The capital city is Chur. The world-famous resorts of Davos and St. Moritz are located in the canton.
Lavin is a small (pop. ca. 200) farming village in the Alps of the swiss cantone of Graubuenden. Lavin belongs to the Engadine - a part of the Swiss cantone of Graubuenden - and is situated in the val Muestair. The village is at 1432 meters above sea level. The area around Lavin is of an extraordinary beauty, and it offers many possibilities in hiking and climbing. A favourite mountain to climb is, for example, the Piz Linard (3410 meters above sea level). The Swiss National Park is not far away and a famous place to experience the animal wildlife of the Alps. About twenty kilometers away lies the city of Scuol, where you will find many possibilities for partaking in sports. Between Lavin and Scuol lies the "Snowpark Motta Naluns", a winter sport region with a total of 14 ski-lifts.

A beautiful alpine composition with a number of different elements. Great perspective from the fertile bottom of the valley through the fir trees to the mountains beyond. Good framing from the foreground vegetation. Some nice shades of green and fine clarity.

Tu as bien choisi l'endroit.

I like the blue and green in the composition. Details are also impressive, especially the mountains in the background.

Good title to this place George. I like this kind of mood with mountains and lots of green.
The snow on the peaks gaves a good ideia of the place climate.

Great and typical shot of this swiss landscape.Good contrast of the green and brown fields in the valley and I like the green/blue tones of the impressive mountans in the distance. The diagonal row of trees and bushes in the foreground works well for your composition.

An excellent point of view for a beautifull mountain lafdnscape. This looks like an advertising for hollidays in Switzerland (except that there are no cows in the prairy or they are too small to be noticed). Colors and sharpness are once more excelent, and I like the colder blue background of the mountains, perhaps a bit hostile looking compared to the green and brown fields around the tiny village.
All the best,

A beautiful landscape George, and your composition is good, but the green/cyan sky spoils this, in my opinion.
It's a common result of over-exposure with digital cameras to get this cyan effect with blue skies, and it can be a difficult probelm to overcome. Using an ND grad filter isn't always an option, especially with an unevenly shaped horizon such as this mountain scene. The best way round it is to set the camera to under-expose so that the sky is exposed correctly, and then sort the shadow areas out later in PP. Detail can always be recovered from under-exposed areas, but over-exposure is very difficult to sort out, if not impossible.
It looks like you tried to darken the sky in PP here, but unfortunately it's made the unnatural cyan colour even more noticeable.
A bit of a shame because otherwise this shot is very appealing.

Excellent POV, this is what one dreams about when one thinks of Switzerland. Love the scenic valley and the mountain rising beyond.

Hi George, This is a truly wonderful view, it is one of the most beautiful scenes on TE i've seen for a while, the colours are superb & the depth created by the focus is excellent, fantastic composition, it must be a dream come true to live in one of those houses, TFS, kind regards Wilson,
vascao (192) 2007-02-25 5:56
Daydream is the word, George. A place to be, indeed. I like the feeling of vastness and the "layers" of the image: the houses, the forest and the mountains.
Really good, congrats!

Here you show us a most beautiful scenery in very natural colours. Your point of view is wonderful here. Including the houses and the agricultural areas shows the dimensions of this landscape very well. A great view ...
Greetings from springlike Germany - and have a nice week!

Awesome scenery. The height of the mountains in such an small area is quite impressive. The alpine setting of this place reminds me of so many beautiful places I have seen in my climbing and trekking trips. Good colours and light to show us this beautiful place. Good note too. Thanks George.
