Photographer’s Note

Rue de la Neuveville. Fribourg is a bastion of Catholicism in Switzerland (it’s also the city that gave birth to the Dolinade, but that’s another story).

Dozens of nuns wander through the city like ghosts. I bet there are more nuns to be found in Fribourg than Buddhist monks in Luang Prabang. The atmosphere of the old town was made on purpose just for me. The vestiges of medieval architecture (to be seen on some facades), and the cobbled streets made me feel….at home. I was most certainly born on the wrong century.

Tres jolie petite scene urbaine avec une ambiance retro courtesy du noire et blanc. LA bonne soeur ajoute a l'ambiance.

Belle image très Gaelienne cadrage sympa et bon dynamisme excellent N&B plus toutes les qualités que l'on te connais. Mais Mais.... ces poubelles je ne les trouve pas très esthétiques et la voiture me dérange un peu. Elle me plait beaucoup et c'est pour cela que ces p'tit détails me dérangent d'avantage

Comme quoi l'art est subjectif, des gouts et des couleurs, moi je trouve excellent ces poubelles en avant plan, cet urbanisme mobile faisant partie de notre quotidien. Je me rappelle il y a 20 ans, j'ai fait toute une série de photo NB ayant comme sujet principal...les poubelles.
Par contre la voiture, c'est une autre histoire.

Hello Gal. Good street shot, the wide angle (although some distortion) is great.. you show so much of the buildings and the stone walkway. I like how the walkway swirles down the steps. Well done.

Couldn't agree with you more, Gal!!! Same here... cobble stones and old ways, and am feeling at home. A note that touches my heart.
As to the shot, of course it does too... but that is nothing new of course. This time it is a bit like an old print, I can see it like Durer reborn as a photographer with all the details in the curvilinear streets, the cobble stones... but it is also great the way those garbage bags are strewn around to remind us we are still here, in this odd twenty-first century.

intersting ! love the tilt, the wide angle distortion, good B&W contrats all around. creates some eefect if i look at it for a length of time.

Le grand angle écrase les marches et en même temps grandit les façades. Quel bel effet (vertige) au final. La suite de sacs en plastique de droite à gauche jusqu'au sac porté, me plait beaucoup (elle date la photo). Superbe. Christophe

Hello Gal,
je suis un peu d'accord avec Toni, la voiture, les sacs plastiques, cassent un peu la projection dans un pseudo passé, je verrai plutot les dechets sans leurs emballages ;oP Cependant ce qui m'attire ici c'est ce prmier plan, les pavés, c'est trerriblement esthetique et graphique, l'effet du GA est excellent, il faut que je m'en procure un au plus vite...mais lequel choisir....

Tu vois il suffit de venir à Fribourg pour rencontrer des nones ;)
Belle utilisation du grand angle, l'effet est nickel.
Ton n/b lui va à merveille et j'aime bien ton choix de cadrage avec ces pavés, ce muret, ces marches et ces sacs poubelles sur l'avant ;)
J'aurais peut-être aimé ne pas voir la voiture par contre.

Tu fais dans la chasse au bonne soeur ?

Un très beau noir blanc, j'aime comme ce pavé ressort et prend de l'importance sur cette image. C'est un très bel instantané, il y a un côté authentique et j'ai l'impression de voir un moment privilégié.
La composition est bien faite, et tous les éléments ont leurs places, y compris les sac poubelles.

Hi Gal. I seem to be critiquing more b&w shots as of late, I guess it remimds me that I have a couple of rolls I need to soup. This one is really effective for me. I like the patterns of the cobblestones, the sloping of the road and the positioning of the nun. The only thing I really wish was different is that the van wasn't visible in the background. Nice conversion to b&w too. Good shot Gal.

I like your composition, but I am sure about the distorsion created by the lens.
The black and white is good and also the moment... anway, still I am not sure about that distorsion.
