A view of the Lauterbrunnen valley from the town of Mürren.
The U-shaped valley is a narrow passage that glaciers cut out of the rock leaving the mountain faces that enclose the valley. It is one of the deepest in the world. The sheer is about 1000 meter high and some 72 waterfalls can be found. From this point the valley floor was 800 meter down.
Mürren (1650 meter) is a car-free town and you can arrive by funicular. From here you can see the Jungfrau at the other side of the valley. |
