Photographer’s Note

Comfortably installed between its hills, Sierre profits from a situation privileged in extreme cases between the Top and Low-Were worth it. Its particular sunning and its southernmost character made its reputation of town of reception. The Romans called it "the city with the hundred hills". They had had a presentiment of the charm of these hills on which some castles are drawn up and around whose the hamlets were built that recent constructions join together. Yesterday like today, the charm of Sierre and its area allured the artists. Numbers of them decided to remain in the area sierroise and to exert their talent there: R. Mr. Rilke, Rudolf Kassner, Goethe, Toepfer, Churchill, Valéry. These artists contribute largely to the reputation of Sierre of which they are made the invaluable ambassadors.
