Photographer’s Note
As we head into March, spring truly seems to be on its way with mild temperatures and warm sunshine. Memories of winter seem distant, or for many of us non-existent for this year. Nevertheless we did get a few cold and snowy days here in Basel and here’s a shot taken in January on one such rare day. This photo was taken from Schartenflue, a dramatic limestone cliff which overlooks the hills of the Jura to the south. The building is a restaurant, closed at this time of year and not in my view very welcoming anyway, but it seemed a nice element to include in the composition together with the tree and the bench.
Thanks for looking.

Salut Susanna,
Très belle composition, un bon cadrage et des très belles couleurs ! La neige est bien rendue et l'usage du 10-222mm fait merveille !

Bonjour Susanna,
Great composition, the choice of the ultra wide angle is right here. The effect is very interesting. Exposure is well done on the snow, wich is not an easy thing to do.

Hi Susanna
It seems so strange to see snow close up as it's only snowed once in Lausanne this year and we've only been skiing once. Your pov really makes me feel I'm walking in it. There's good triangular balance between the restaurant, tree and bench (I wrote this before reading your note). The sky is nicely polarized and all is well contrasted.
Enjoy your afternoon.

Hi Susanna,
What a superb composition! I love this low angle POV, with the wooden structure providing great graphism and leading the eye into the frame to the lovely building. Yet it is the character tree that makes the scene soar. Everything is in complete balance here, and the exposure level is perfect without any undue glare from the snow. A first rate capture....later.

Bonsoir Susanna,
Wow, these colors are wonderful !
The contrast between very white snow and dark blue sky is magnificent.
Your POV is nice, adding perspective to the super wide angle landscape.
Nice job,
Regards,
JB.

Hello Susanna,
What a pure and quiet landscape. I especially love the wide angle usage, giving contrast to the materiels on the foreground. The overall composition is very good and the colors and lighting great. A nice winter image !
Best regards, Christian

Hi Susanna,
this is a very carefully composed shot with
great colour palette and beautiful contrast.
I'm trying hard to guess what kind of tree
this is, but just can't figure it out - so
I'm giving up!
LOL
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Susanna,
Sad title... as I'm part of the people who are still waiting for winter to start! I like your low POV and the use of the weide angle has created an interesting perspective with that huge looking tree. The polarizer has created nice contrasts thought the upper left angle of the sky is perhaps a bit too dark. I wish you a nice week-end. I'm probably going skiing! :o)))

You use well the few detils here Susanna. The low pov is essential for the result not least by having the tree exposed very effectful in the compo. A well disposed, interesting winter setting.

Salut Susanna,

Expo nickel.
Merci pour le partage.
Daniel.

Hoi Susanna, you're very right. That restaurant is really not welcoming at all. I often climbed through the Schartenflue and at the end my hunger and thirst prevailed to have some small snack there, but I never got excited about it. Anyway, it gives you a good backdrop for this wonderfull winter scenery.
TFS, Peter
