Photographer’s Note

It was worth the short uphill exertion off the piste through the snow in cumbersome ski shoes. The view was unexpected but not unfamiliar – rather like the surprise of seeing an old friend! We spent the day skiing in Meiringen-Hasliberg, from where I was not expecting this bonus view over to the ski area of Melchsee-Frutt which seemed so far below. I stood for some while to take in all the details – the network of ski lifts and the tiny ant-like skiers, the various lakes, peaks and valleys. I even forgot that I had come for a day’s skiing, and would happily have spent longer just admiring the view.

The flat area in the middle is the lake of Melchsee, which leads beyond it and to the right to Tannensee, and yet a third lake, Engstlensee, shaded in the valley further on, beyond which lies the ski area of Engelberg. To the left is the Melchtal valley, and in the further distance the lake of Sarnersee.

This is a stitch of 6 vertical shots assembled using Autostitch.
