It is said to be the "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world". The L÷wendenkmal, or the Lion of Lucerne was sculptured by Bertel Thorvaldsen in memoriam of the Swiss Guards that were massacred by rebels on August 10, 1792 in Paris, France.
The sculpture displays a lion, deadly woonded by a spear. A "must see" in Lucerne, Switzerland.
