Photographer’s Note
Not yet the last day of summer, but the last weekend of holidays in Geneva. Next Monday all the children will go back to school for another year of literary-kind drama. Now, when we were younger, you and I, I’m sure you remember that “when we grew up and went to school, there were certain teachers, who would hurt the children anyway they could…” . Things haven’t changed much with the slight difference that nowadays it’s more common to see children hurting their teachers than the other way around.
For those who can still run, take good profit of this last weekend, seize the hours before they vanish in a glimpse, let your thoughts run free before getting back to the norm. A free traveller is the one who faces nude the unknown, and lets himself be carried by death. Because travelling is dying before being able to reborn again. How would we understand our opposite, otherwise?

Cours petite!

Message of this weel executed photo to me is : "Run you can't hide.... World of grown up full of obligations and troubles will catch you."
Somehow strange, but in my oppinion the black part on right is detail that gives the strength to this photo. Kid running into something she dont know, hide behind this black courtain. Going out of world of childrens inniocence and fun in the world of grown up people.
YEs, very good photo indeed.

Wow Gal!

Bon week-end.

Wonderfully captured the running girl. Not only her dress but also the sky looks pink and captures the eye well.

Im digging thi shot. It also gave me the idea to upload one of my own blurry shots, although mine is with a motorcycle rider. I was hesitant to upload it to TE but the reaction has surprised me. Not bcause its not a great shot, I love these sort of energetic, artistic blurs, but rather because I didnt think they would be appreciated by the rest of the TE community. This one is and rightfully so.

A+

Salut Gal

Excelente Gal.

Not halfweighted in your statements, Gal.. I'll try to prevent my daughter from reading your text and looking at your photo. If ever she takes a look, I think I will have some difficulties to take her back to school for another year... she'd rather run away, like your girl does...
Holidays were studious though : she took lessons, but she enjoyed every second of them, it was surf lessons of any kind, on the real waves of Phuket... also on the Internet where she spends most of her time. This will be no more in a few days..
This is soooo pessimistic with that solid black hole in which she will soon be running into... gosh, in one hand, I'm happy to be past these days...althought each year at the same season I can still smell the leather of the satchel I would carry for a full year and the ink too...
Magnificent post processing with the diagonal strokes, a bit like drawn with Conté crayons.

Salut Gal.,
Bien amicalement.
Cheers de Shanghai.

The color and a sense of velocity shown in the picture is just fantastic. Such a glimpse frozen will last longer in one's mind than many carefully contrived scenes.

No reason for me to write a critique for THIS work of yours, Gal.
For, I did it before. Once.
Several weeks before your post, there was a photograph that inspired me tremendously to say something about the word so overused on TE, that became a worthless (I my opinion) phrase of describing the real value of a photograph.
Below is the copy (altered by me) of a critique to the other, equally great photograph posted before yours
"Portrait of a child"
Possibly, one of the most powerful PORTRAITS of a child right here , on TE.
It's an earth' child. That's what the childhood is all about.
Stunningly beautiful faces of young girls presented here, on TE, mostly are not PORTRAITS…They're photos of stunningly beautiful faces of young girls, made with the use of a mechanical device, designed and constructed in such a way to make that photo of a child as easy job as possible.
Making a portrait requires skills, imagination, honesty, education, intelligence and knowledge and yes, also some manual abilities to press that funny looking button on the top of your automatic, registering device. All these virtues mentioned above have to be present - simultaneously, combined together.
Why such a high demand?
Because we're talking about PEOPLE here, the one and only reason we exist, we work, we hate, we love, we take photographs…The other PEOPLE !!!
And portrait is a highest level of photography there is.
We are tremendously lucky to have a number of wonderful PORTRAITS of the people, here on TE, for which' credits go entirely to the photographers who made them.
Also we are extremely lucky to have thousands and thousands of photos of the most pretty faces of the girls and the boys, of which' the credits should go entirely to the eggs of their mothers and the sperms of their fathers, for creating such a marvel with wide open eyes and shaggy hair surrounding those eyes. God bless those fathers and mothers. You don't have to remember the names of the photographers, though.
Think please, my dear folks before you place those greenies on someone's work and call that work "Oh, what a wonderful portrait". Is it really a PORTRAIT ?
( there is enough of them around to check it out).
Or is it a cute and easy photo of a HUMAN FACE.
Here above is a PORTRAIT of a child, running the earth. That's what makes them children. Try to catch the feeling of a child running their lives and you got yourself a darn good portrait..
Thanks Gal…
You've managed to punch me again.

I love the way the dark patch works in this picture... brings up the metaphor inside me... the motion is TIME. She's coming from a colorful past into a yet-unknown future. Beautiful photo, Gal, really beautiful.
