After a patient wait, I was rewarded by the sun appearing to kiss the Jungfrau for the last time that day, and create the effect known as the Alpenglow, of the sun reflecting off the snow.
The Jungfrau (German: "maiden/virgin") is one of the main summits in the Bernese Alps, situated between the cantons of Valais and Bern in Switzerland. Together with the Eiger and Mönch, the Jungfrau forms a massive wall overlooking the Bernese Oberland and is considered one of the most emblematic sights of the Swiss Alps.
The Jungfrau is the third highest mountain of the Bernese Alps after the nearby Finsteraarhorn and Aletschhorn, respectively 12 and 8 km away. But from Lake Thun, and the greater part of the canton of Bern, it is the most conspicuous and the nearest of the Oberland peaks, and the extreme steepness of the north face, secured for it an early reputation for inaccessibility.
The Jungfrau is the westernmost and highest point of a gigantic 10 km wall dominating the valleys of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. The wall is formed by the alignment of some of the most distinctive north faces in the Alps, with the Mönch (4,107 m) and Eiger (3,970 m) to the east of the Jungfrau, and overlooks the valleys to its north by a height of up to 3 km. The Jungfrau is approximately 6 km from the Eiger; with the summit of the Mönch between the two mountains, 3.5 km from the Jungfrau. The wall is extended to the east by the Fiescherwand and to the west by the Lauterbrunnen Wall.

Lovely colors and light.

patience is always rewarded, and you get a stunning picture with the light only on the top of the snowy mountain. Big color contrast black/white/blue.

this is an incredible landscape. i remember going there with my cousin when we where 17 or 18. he arrived at zurich airport and just started walking. arrived at jungfrau and the eiger about a week later. a great experience. your picture brings back a few memories. the sunlight touching the peak is magnificant, as is the cloud skirting the summit.

This is a most amazing landscape. And, as with all really excellent shots, it is the lighting which makes this picture so special. It was well worth all the wait.
Incidentally, I once read (and I can't remember where) that the beginner in photography dreams of a better camera, the amateur dreams of more and better lenses, but the expert dreams of better light - I think there's a lot of truth in that.
As I say, the lighting here is superb: not only the obvious area toward the peak but also the little subtle patches of warm light low down in the frame and in the cloud approaching from the right. Beautiful colours and exquisite detail and sharpness.
Oh, and of course, the composition is perfect too, complying very well with the revered rule of thirds.
I'm adding this to my "favourites" if that's O.K.

this is really an impressive view with the fading sunlight on a snowy mountain. Exploring your gallery, I got the impression you like taking nature shots and this is a good sample of those. Keep capturing Will, cheers,
