Photographer’s Note
Meiringen has two major points of interest. One is Reichenbach Falls and there is also Aare gorge.
The river Aare cut its way slowly for the last 2 million years through the big rock formation, called Kirchet.
The gorge is 1400 m long and up to 180 m deep. Mostly it is only 1 to 2 meters wide. The path through the gorge was opened in 1888 and is constructed of:
- 1000 m wooden paths built on steel girders which are anchored in the cliff walls
- 400 m of tunnels or galleries
- 250 m of gravel or asphalt paths
As you can imagine the lighting conditions were specific and without a tripod you are pretty much limited. However, with shutter speed 1/6 and at ISO 800 I think the photo is agreeable.
Beside you have to be fast and patient because people walk all the time in both direction.
