Photographer’s Note

As many of you are contemplating their upcoming ski holiday, or might follow the olympic winter games in Torino, I think this is a fitting image for warm up. Even if you do not practise ski you can join virtually in being the next in this line of surfers beginning their descent in this fine panorama arena overlooking the Brienzersee. We are here in central Switzerland.

Hi, Jean-Yves,

yes it is the day the olympics start and since I'm not that good skier, I'll follow sledge, skating and specially hockey.
Anyway, the photo looks great, well composed with the skiers here and there and with a great depth that leads us into the distant valley.

What an attractive view looking down to the depths of the Brienzersee! Looks like quite a steep slope for getting out the camera, though presumably you were stationary at the time!!! I like the poses of the snowboarders without whom the scene would be a bit empty. I will take your advice and breathe and enjoy.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I'm 15.000 km from there, here in Singapore it's raining, with a terrifiant grey sky, thunderstorm, wind....and more or less there are 30°.....
you cannot do that......
fantastic shot Jean, the POV is fantastic and the view down on the mountain is wonderful!

Je regarde en détail et je vois que les skis ont évolués :-)) on glisse directement sur les godasses maintenant, ou va se nicher le progrès :-)

Interesting how the valley now seems to be on the other side than in "Free Parking". But these both are from the north side of the valley?
I guess this is the closest possible sensation of participating skiboarding without me falling off my chair!

I belong to the ones that are contemplating my upcoming ski holidays. I really miss my snowboarding, since last year and this is a great image to warm me up. Superb view and very well capture of the slopes and those guys having the fun that I hope to get in a month. Congratulations!

Perfect day in the mountains! The crystal clear sky, the sunlight on the snow covered mountains, the nice little valley far below, and that inviting slope all combine to make this a wonderful winter scene. This really makes me feel like getting up to the mountains soon!

those endless mountains and valleys are breathtaking. and i like that you've included the skiiers to give the photograph a human element.

the more i look at your photos, the more i dream of visiting switzerland. ahhh ... i wish!

A splendid warm up indeed for skiing or the Olympics. The clarity of detail is very good and I especially like your control of glare and intense light from the snow. The skiiers are well positioned in the frame and the DOF is excellent. Very energizing, pleasing work. A fine capture.

Very nice winter sports scene, JY, and of course a fitting choice for the opening day of the Olympics. I particularly like the placement of the snowboarders, and the way in which the undulating surface of the hill is shown so well. Nice POV that puts us into the position of following the guys downhill, and a good deep view into the valley.

Hi Jean-Yves. What stunning beauty so masterfully integrated with the dynamics of the skiers. There are a lot of mountains out there but our eyes don't get lost in distance, as it's not overly busy. Good highlight retention too. Awesome shot!!

Le coffre de la bagnole est plein,prés à partir vers mes Pyrénées chéries pour derouiller les quarts de mes vieux skis(mes articulations aussi),ton image me motive encore un peu plus...

Wow, quelle vue ! Personnellement, cette image me donne le trac. Tout comme en vrai quand je me trouve en haut d'une piste et que je vois la pente (souvent plus pentue ou bosselée que je ne l'imaginais...). Et c'est pire s'il y a du verglas..là je reste clouée à la neige jusqu'à ce que mes fesses soient gelées et que quelqu'un (ma fierté ou mon bon sens peut-être) me dise que ce sera pire après. Alors là seulement j'y vais. Je devrais peut-être garder ça pour moi...mais je suis sûre qu'il y en a qui se reconnaîtront là dedans...non ? personne ? ...mince...;o)
Bref, à part ça la photo est drôlement réussie avec un point de vue superbe, une jolie composition. On a l'impression d'y être !
Belle netteté et luminosité "à point" :-)

Hi Jean Yves, nice shot, you can't go wrong with this beautiful place. :) This is very much what I remember the Alps looking like, lots of beautiful bright whites and brilliant blues. Your composition is nice, with a few snowboarders to show how much fun this place is, but the picture is not too crowded with people.
