Photographer’s Note
Taken from near the cable car station at First, which departs from Grindelwald in the valley below. It was the first day of ski season (early December) in the mountains surrounding Interlaken so many skiers and hikers alike were enjoying the fantastic weather and views this place has to offer. Although temperatures were near freezing, many people enjoyed the day by just lounging around in the sun and drinking beer (as the gentleman in the picture was).
The mountain is the background is the Eiger which stands at 3970m (13026 feet) making it one of the tallest mountains in the Interlaken area.
To gain access to First, you will need to catch a train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, then a train from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald. A cable car will then need to be taken from Grindelwald to the very last station, which is confusingly named First.
Unfotunately myself, being from Australia with next to no snow, cannot ski. Therefore I had to join the little kids and hire a sled for the day!
